Dude, I paid you the highest of compliments: I imagined it was possible that you were doing lines of coke in your upgraded penthouse suite. I imagined it was possible that you brought a high-end prostitute to a firm dinner dressed in spandex. Frickin spandex. That is 180 baller behavior. You should be flattered, my friend.Capitol_Idea wrote:Thanks rpupkin for your faith in my judgment/professionalism.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Rick James Edition
Had my mid summer review today and it went really well. I had no negative feedback at all and the people I worked with had great things to say in the written reviews. I know from other summers that negative feedback was given, so its not like they just told everyone they were doing fine.
Obviously, an hour later, I have my first large fuck up of the summer. I was unclear about the format that the partner wanted for an assignment, and instead of asking for clarification, ended up turning in something that was substantively correct but the format was wrong. He was pissed. He was kind of yelling at first when I met with him, but once he realized that I knew the material substantively and just needed to change the format, he seemed to lighten up a little bit and made a joke and was telling stories by the end of the meeting. He kind of implied that it would be fine to give to him tomorrow, but the due date was today, so I am staying late tonight to fix it and turn it in tonight. It is a historically 100% offer firm, but they occasionally have no offered 1 in a medium sized (for New York) class.
It was not something that needed to be sent to a client any time soon or anything like that. At the end of our meeting, he told me not to get flustered over it and to treat it as a learning experience. I am a little worried because I have read stories on here in previous "no offer" threads of people getting clipped for fucking up an assignment or 2 with a partner. I was very deferential and apologetic about the whole thing. Is this the type of thing that should be fine if I rectify it tonight?

Isn't pathetic gossip the only reason anyone reads ATL? Or do you go there for the insights on making at as a solo, and mindfulness meditation for attorneys?First Offense wrote:Because it's pathetic gossip?papercut wrote:It's still in my Feedly but the link is dead. Midsummer review: all positive except a partner who I received first assignment from said first thing was a little careless, but then had some okay things to say too. Kind of feel blindsided because he had not seemed displeased with my work. Is this a problem?

Were you previously under the impression that all of your work was perfect? You should be happy someone read what you wrote, and bothered to give constructive feedback.Anonymous User wrote:Midsummer review: all positive except a partner who I received first assignment from said first thing was a little careless, but then had some okay things to say too. I was almost sure I was drinking the koolaid when it came to rating the personalities at my summer firms, but honestly, some of you sound like you work for/with some unbearable people.
Like seriously, if most of this isn't flame, the butterfly effect is so real.

Yea kinda feeling the same. I pretty much like everyone. Maybe it gets worse after dark, when all the summers go out to play.DJ JD wrote:I was almost sure I was drinking the koolaid when it came to rating the personalities at my summer firms, but honestly, some of you sound like you work for/with some unbearable people.

I don't know what this has to do with smog in china though

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Rick James Edition
What's the consensus?
6 out of 10 weeks completed.
Completed 5-10 more projects than other summers, thus far
Only 1 fuck upped assignment
Should I be primarily looking to take on more assignments or to try to take on a few and not fuck them up? I had been taking on a lot of assignments in order to get my name circulated around the office as getting a lot done quickly, but now I'm feeling like I should slow it down. Thoughts?

completing fewer assignments than other summers with zero fuckups >>> completing 5-10 more than other summers with 1 fuck up, congrats on needlessly increasing the odds of getting no offered

I literally did a 1/3 of the work that most other summers did and was fine. Do less... and do it well.
