Also, my email seemed much less form response (and mentioned applying 3L) than any other ding I've gotten. Can any other dings speak to the unusualness of that?

Keep in mind that I'm just a 2L, but from my experience and knowing which firms have done this, it means they're moving towards the Quinn Emanuel model of hiring less 2Ls in favor of 3Ls/post-clerkship applicants. And that they think you might be a good candidate after a clerkship or something like that.

I got the apply as a 3L from Cravath & PW. I assumed they said it to everyone but maybe not.

I feel safe assuming if other firms are doing it that it's more common than I thought, I guess my dings are just a bad sample for this purpose and was curious since Cov was the only Apply 3L ding I got and mentioned some specific personal details.
