Transfers,
Have you tried accessing them via the OCP Law Firms and OCI page? If you still can't access them that way I would suggest calling/emailing OCP tomorrow.

I would definitely call OCP. The data is in an interactive chart and would be much more useful to you in its original form versus any copy + pasted version.Attrition wrote:At least for me it goes to an error page

It's not supposed to be shared (so I'm not sending it to someone who I can't verify is a U of M student). However, OCP should have no trouble giving you either access to the page or a spreadsheet with everything in it. I'm sure lawopen would get you a response to.Attrition wrote:At least for me it goes to an error page

Anyone have 11th hour tips on splitting bids LA/NYC? Above median (not sure by how much because I can't math) and LA ties.

Is there any world in which it would make sense to have bids left over? I'm bidding on two different secondary markets and have about 5 left over... There are other firms I would bid but OCP told me I shouldn't bid more than two areas.

I wouldn't necessarily tell interviewers you're bidding more than 2 markets, but definitely use all of your bids.

In the event that you deviate from the bid list you discussed with OCP, can they veto the bids you submit on symplicity?

No, they have no veto power over your bids. It's your career, after all.Anonymous User wrote:In the event that you deviate from the bid list you discussed with OCP, can they veto the bids you submit on symplicity?

Looking for some estimate here because I go back and forth all the time on where I probably stand, but where will a 3.62 GPA be after 1L in reference to class ranking? I'm curious how far away I am from "top 10%" that some of the more selective firms in NY say they prefer.

Re: Michigan OCI 2016
It's really going to depend on your GPA, but there's a certain valley of above-median GPAs where some LA firms may not necessarily be worth spending a bid on. If you're in the 3.4-3.5 range w/o MLR, interviewing with a firm like Irell or MTO is probably wasting an interview you could spend elsewhere. Latham also dips a bit lower in their overall range but in general their median is pretty up there too.Anonymous User wrote:LawOpen is prob going to be faster than OCP.EncyclopediaOrange wrote:Fair enough! You should also should be cross-referencing NALP directory to figure out how large summer class sizes are. If the available firms to bid on are similar to last year, it will appear as if you could fill out an entire bid list with LA firms, but that means that you will be interviewing with a lot of places that are satellite offices that really are only taking 1-3 summers for their whole summer class. It really depends on how risk averse you want to be, whether you have someone at the firm you've networked with, and how badly you want LA, but these firms don't appear to be extending offers all that often based on our historical data so in a lot of instances it's more value (IMO) to swap them out for NYC firms with larger class sizes that are going to be less stingy about extending a callback/offer.
Spend your remaining bids on NYC, ideally those firms extending large #s of CBs/offers. Even if you hate NYC, a job there is better than no job at all and you're really on the higher end of the risk scale for that happening if you're splitting bids with two secondary markets. There is simply a larger amount of SA jobs available in NYC and that means firms are far less picky about who they even bring in for a callback.Anonymous User wrote:Is there any world in which it would make sense to have bids left over? Re: Michigan OCI 2016
It's hard to say how the game theory of all of this will play out because OCP has given you all different advice on how to structure your bids than we had last year and is withholding the bid % data, but as someone that split basically the same as you (with relatively similar grades to boot), I would say that as a general rule you need your NY firms higher than your LA firms if you want to secure the maximum amount of bids. And given the lack of bid percentage data I would imagine that kids closer to median are going to hedge their bets based off of reported GPA medians, so the lower a firm's median the higher you probably will need to rank them.Anonymous User wrote:LA/NYC anon here. Edit: updated to put bid list in order
Unless your class composition is radically different, there's simply not as much competition over LA firms as there are over those NYC firms. Sidley at #1 is necessary for NYC, but I had Sidley LA in the teens and ended up netting an interview. Schulte is definitely too low. Proskauer NY is almost assuredly too low. Weil probably needs to be higher. Paul Weiss is likely too low, but it looks like their GPA median rose a bit so students might be self-selecting out on bids (15 netted me an interview last year). Unless they've changed the way they're splitting up their interview rooms, Alston & Bird ends up pooling together their interview slots across multiple offices so you'd need them much higher even for LA.

Re: Michigan OCI 2016
Only know about the Bay Area firms, but you have to put MoFo higher on your list if you want to get an interview. At least two years ago only about 25% of the people who bid on it got an interview. Literally everyone focused on the Bay Area will be trying to interview with MoFo, so you shouldn't just tack it on in the middle. Your markets are a little bit all over the place (obviously), are you hoping for DC/NY, but have CA ties?Anonymous User wrote:Hi transfer here, also in a similar position as anon above.
