By all means feel free to point out a sub-$300 shoe (about the price you can find AE for without looking too hard outside of their major sales event) which has quality leather&construction and looks better. Meermin, maybe? The problem with those is you have to take a leap of faith since there's no way to try them before buying them, and shipping costs to send them back are atrocious. Can't really think of anything else.WeeBey wrote:Nothing against cap toe oxfords, its just the AE park ave last isnt my thing. I feel like its too clunky or bulbous for a lack of a better word. Jack Erwin makes a decent shoe for the price, without the shipping/return fees of Meermin.Mr. Blackacre wrote:By all means feel free to point out a sub-$300 shoe (about the price you can find AE for without looking too hard outside of their major sales event) which has quality leather&construction and looks better. What's the general consensus on loafers and monkstraps in NYC?

Yeah...no.inchipwetrust wrote: Cole Haan - http://www.colehaan.com/lenox-hill-cap- ... olor=Black
Personally I think double monkstraps work with everything - loafers, not in a business setting. I also happen to think loafers look really ugly, but that's just me. Most people won't look at or care what shoes you wear.SplitMyPants wrote:No clue about NYC specifically. My personal opinion, though, is that if you're not a boomer, avoid the former, and if you're not european, avoid the latter.mistman7 wrote:What's the general consensus on loafers and monkstraps in NYC?

Has anyone gotten word on how much your firm pays for moving expenses? Mine gives out stipends but I have no idea how much to expect

It honestly depends on the firm. Some firms pay of removing expenses, some don't. For those that do, I've heard around $1000 is generally the norm with a reimbursement-type method.

I'm going to be living at home this summer so if there is a 1000 stipend that would be amazing

My firm will pay for a flight from the closest airport to your law school or give you the same amount in cash if you are driving there, which is what I'm doing.

Thoughts on asking to miss the first friday of the summer for a siblings graduation from a doctoral program? I'm inclined to ask the fam to record it and show commitment to the firm.

Fellow summer, I would definitely just miss the graduation. It's just a dumb ceremony. Be sure to totally accidentally say that you're missing your sibling's graduation ceremony because XYZ thing you're working on is really important within earshot of patherns.Anonymous User wrote:TCR. If you are at a firm with a large summer program/100% offer rate you are totally fine to ask and they will say it's fine. You probably won't even be staffed by then and if you are no one will care.Anonymous User wrote:Thoughts on asking to miss the first friday of the summer for a siblings graduation from a doctoral program? Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I'm going to miss one day out of a ten-week SA because my household goods are being delivered. The moving company won't deliver on weekends or holidays, and I don't have anyone I can designate as a receiving agent to accept my stuff for me, so missing a day is pretty much inevitable. I'll know the delivery date before the SA even starts, so I'll be able to give plenty of notice.
There's no reasonable way to hold this against me, is there? I figure if nothing else, it shows I'm serious about relocating to the area.

No but I don't see why that would take a whole day, you should be able to pin them down to an hour or two window and just be home for that time (and then still get paid for the day also). People take furniture or other deliverys all the time in cities, it won't give anyone pause.Anonymous User wrote:I'm going to miss one day out of a ten-week SA because my household goods are being delivered.
