Park Aves are well built, but I find them fucking ugly. Just get something with real leather and with leather soles and you'll be okay. Don't forget shoe trees and polish either. Oxfords are more formal then bluchers but a dark, cap toe bluchers will still fit perfectly in.

As in you don't like cap toe oxfords generally? Or as in there's something particularly off-putting to you specifically about the park ave last?

Nothing against cap toe oxfords, its just the AE park ave last isnt my thing. I feel like its too clunky or bulbous for a lack of a better word. Specific brands dont matter, just get something that you feel looks good (but no matter what no square toes) and is of decent quality (i.e. calf leather (not the corrected bs), leather soles)

By all means feel free to point out a sub-$300 shoe (about the price you can find AE for without looking too hard outside of their major sales event) which has quality leather&construction and looks better. Meermin, maybe? The problem with those is you have to take a leap of faith since there's no way to try them before buying them, and shipping costs to send them back are atrocious. Can't really think of anything else.

No clue about NYC specifically. My personal opinion, though, is that if you're not a boomer, avoid the former, and if you're not european, avoid the latter.

Personally I think double monkstraps work with everything - loafers, not in a business setting. I also happen to think loafers look really ugly, but that's just me. Most people won't look at or care what shoes you wear.

Has anyone gotten word on how much your firm pays for moving expenses? Mine gives out stipends but I have no idea how much to expect

It honestly depends on the firm. Some firms pay of removing expenses, some don't. For those that do, I've heard around $1000 is generally the norm with a reimbursement-type method.

My firm will pay for a flight from the closest airport to your law school or give you the same amount in cash if you are driving there, which is what I'm doing.

Be sure to totally accidentally say that you're missing your sibling's graduation ceremony because XYZ thing you're working on is really important within earshot of patherns.

If you are at a firm with a large summer program/100% offer rate you are totally fine to ask and they will say it's fine. You probably won't even be staffed by then and if you are no one will care.

No but I don't see why that would take a whole day, you should be able to pin them down to an hour or two window and just be home for that time (and then still get paid for the day also). People take furniture or other deliverys all the time in cities, it won't give anyone pause.
