Stupid question: what do criminal division trial attorneys do exactly?

Prosecute federal crimes. Also some policy stuff relating to crime (e.g. advise other federal entities about how they think criminal stuff should be handled). Go to the DOJ criminal section web page, it has a lot of info (particularly the sections/offices page).

Thanks. I guess my confusion stems from the issue of what crimes the trial attorneys at main justice prosecute. Do they take cases away from USAOs? Apologies for my naivete.

I have a friend in the crim division, and he says they work with a ton of different agencies on stuff. It comes from all over.

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Previous anon referring you to the web page. Sorry, I get your question now. I think that they try cases with USAOs, handle a lot of multi-district cases, and coordinate a lot of training and resources generally. For instance, the computer crime section provides a lot of resources to all federal prosecutors - ditto the international crime section. I'm pretty sure it's also somewhere in criminal section that approves the more intrusive kinds of search warrants.
I think the biggest difference is that while an individual USA sets policies in a given district, AUSAs are primarily in the trenches trying cases. I think the criminal division does a lot more to determine national policies for prosecutors and agencies. An AUSA works with the FBI on a specific case; the criminal division works with the the FBI to identify priorities and methods for tackling crimes. An AUSA gets a title III warrant for a drug investigation; someone in crim decides what an AUSA has to do to get the Title III approved.
(I don't know what the actual day-to-day experience of an entry level crim person is like, though, I'm at a USAO. You probably try cases before you're setting policy.)

Two questions, are there multiple rounds of interviews or just one? Is there a place we can find that info?

Just one interview, that makes it even more intense. Are they usually one on one or with multiple people?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
I think it depends on the component/job. The EOIR IJ clerkship interviews are with one person, but they're 2-year positions. I'm pretty sure all the permanent positions are going to have you interview with multiple people (I had one that was an hour with 2 people - that was a 2 year position with expectation but not guarantee of continuing in a permanent gig; I had another that was all morning, with a panel of like 7 people and then 4-5 other individual interviews - that was a permanent gig).

Two questions: 1. Did anyone get a confirmation email when they submitted their additional materials? and 2. Has anyone's interview been scheduled yet?

Anybody know if SLIP applicants are supposed to receive a confirmation after e-mailing the requested materials to the component, post-selection for consideration?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
To anyone who knows or has gone through the application program before, if you have two interviews within the same component, is it possible to get two offers, or would they work together to only issue one offer (hopefully haha)? For instance EOIR, if you have an OCIJ interview and a BIA or OGC interview. Thanks!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
