They try to make everything same-day, so they don't have to put you up.

Successful applicants--would you please describe your legal work experience. Did any of you intern with DA/AUSA/AG offices, etc?

One summer with a nonprofit, two summers in biglaw, and currently in a federal clerkship. No other government experience.

One summer judicial externship, one summer biglaw. I am woefully unqualified for the component I secured interviews with--so much so that I'm already panicking.

I want to post this for posterity, since I previously searched for this information on TLS without success.
DOJ Community Boards wrote: Greetings, all:

I'm getting questions about how many interview candidates were selected by each of the hiring components.

Listed below is our rule of thumb for selecting interview candidates. This is calculated based on the overall number of anticipated component hires, and not on a sub-office basis. U.S. Attorney's Offices and Informal Participants are treated as separate hiring entities and afforded discretion in the number of candidates they select for interviews.

1. Components interviewing for 41+ vacancies may select 125 candidates or a ratio of 3:1, whichever is greater.

2. Components interviewing for 25-40 vacancies may select 100 candidates or a ratio of 3.5 to 1, whichever is greater until it reaches a maximum of 125.

3. Components interview for 4-24 positions may select 4 candidates per vacancy.

4. Components hiring for fewer vacancies are afforded significantly more discretion in the number of interview candidates to accommodate for withdrawals and a significantly smaller aggregate interview pool.

The numbers are not exact and may exceed these limits to a small extent. I hope this is helpful.

Kinkos isn’t going to help much, because they fax you back your interview schedule as well.

If your work office has a fax, that is your best bet (that is what I am doing). If not, a friend’s house?

Check to see whether a friend has a fax machine at work. Someone at a firm or a nonprofit has to have access to a machine.

Wow, kind of wishing I applied to more components other than just EOIR after seeing stats in this thread. Oh well.

Has anyone heard back yet with a scheduled date? I know it's first come, first served, and there are a LOT of dates I can't do because of scheduling issues with my clerkship. I faxed the travel survey over around 12pm.

My friend was magna at HLS, did slip, and 2 clerkships who didn't get an interview. He didn't apply to his slip component.

Check to see if your school's career services or public interest careers office has one that is available for student use. That is what I did during this process last cycle. And my school was prepared enough to accommodate multiple students faxing and receiving return faxes (which, by the way, don't necessarily come back promptly, so plan for that). Even if you've already graduated, your school might be able to help you out.

Kinko's will receive faxes for you. You just have to go check to see if you have one, I don't think they notify you.

I scheduled my interview with ATR NYC, but they called last week. I still faxed in the travel survey to schedule my other three interviews. I'm in the same boat as you with my clerkship because I have a trial the entire last week of October. Good luck! I hope they can accommodate you.

Anyone know about them only covering expenses for one interview trip? I have NY and DC ATR, and can't do it on one trip since NY is interviewing early. They have an exception for USAOs, seems like they'd do the same with the ATR field offices?

Congratulations to those who got interviews. Sorry to those who did not.

I sent mine around that time yesterday and heard back early this afternoon. So there is movement!

I just got an emailed PDF with my flight itinerary, but as far as I know no fax...so I don't actually know the time of my interview (just the date). Did you guys get the PDF and fax at the same time?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
