Thanks for the info! If you don't mind questions, What does the NY office mainly look for? Degree/school/rank/etc?

Anonymous User wrote: Hospitality suites are critical. Remember: these firms may not be able to interview everyone they would like to interview on account of time and space. That said, it is entirely possible to not get selected or to not even bid a firm and still end up with a CB via the hospitality suite game. You will be able to drop off resumes, show genuine interest, and speak with partners, associates, and head legal recruiters.
As someone who got a couple of extra interviews through hospitality suites last year, including the one that ultimately led to my SA, I want to highlight this even further. Most of you are going to be there for two full days anyway, you owe it to yourselves to spend 10 minutes at every hospitality suite you even might be interested in. Walk in, drop off resume, ask a good question or two, and be on your way. Or just stick around and mooch their food/swag if you're having a good conversation with someone and need a break before your next interview.

Yes, they really do look at the resumes you drop off. Don't talk yourself out of doing these things, it's a huge wasted opportunity.

Are you guys putting a "Coursework: blabla" line by your undergrad?

I don't have any relevant tech WE, and a generic physics degree. At a T20 right now. Most of my classes were on the EE side (versus more quantum or relativity or particle physics or whatever other academic)

Would it be worth listing some of these classes on there? Some of the actual course names are somewhat ambiguous, so would it be OK to just say "Focused on Integrated Circuits and Electronics" or something? Or best to just leave it as B.S. Physics and talk about it interview?

I am bidding on the west coast firms as I don't really have the time or money to fly out for SFIPLA. I don't have ties to Cali so Loyola is going to be the only chance I get to interview with these firms. (OCI at Texas is pretty neglected by Cali firms.)

I'm not because I'm old, but I would if I were you. And selling the EE part of your undergrad is a good idea. Can't patent physics.

Firms are not posted yet, however...

MWE
Baker Botts
Kenyon
Knobbe
MoFo
Perkins
Morgan Lewis
Kilpatrick
Dechert
Blakely Sokoloff
Klarquist

Most of these were for SF, SV, PA, LA or other CA offices, with spattering of PNW offices. One or two firms were looking outside CA but that's it.

Why do people forget to mention their WE (also the number of years). It is highly important for patent jobs.

Probably because they have none? I'd imagine if they had some they would mention it. I agree, it's HIGHLY important. There's a big difference between studying a subject and actually working in it.

How does transferring affect pre-selects? or does it not because the decision is made too late? I got accepted to a school for transfer but still going to apply for RD.

They're pre-selecting based on the resume that you're going to submit by [updated date] May 4th. If the resume that you submit during the bidding period reflects your transfer, they'll see it and it will be part of the selection decision. Otherwise, you could contact the firms you've bid on later in the summer to try to get an updated resume in front of them, but the chances of anyone seeing that and caring are near-zero.

In terms of how transfers are perceived overall, the consensus is that employers look at all of your numbers in light of their criteria for students at your 1L school, since you haven't actually done anything yet to prove yourself at your transfer school.

What's hiring like at PLIP for 3Ls who do not have a 2L SA? I know that in general, if you do not have a 2L SA, the chances of getting hired as a 3L are non-existent. Are those chances better in the IP world?

I knew a few 3Ls who went to PLIP without 2L SAs and although they got a few screening interviews, nothing more came of them. It could have been just them and not necessarily the fact that they're 3Ls, though. HTH!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
