Yea.

Orrick Herrington, Southern California (LA/OC):

2 Harvard
1 Columbia
1 Berkeley
1 UCLA
1 UT (Texas)
1 Davis

The northern california offices are probably much larger.

S&C's LA office is going to have 2 from Berkeley, 1 from Michigan, and 4 from UCLA.

These aren't especially low, they're about the same as previous classes for these offices per NALP. They just seem low because they've all been satellite offices (except for Irell) that usually don't take many summers, no one's posted about the summer classes at main offices yet (e.g., WSGR, Fenwick, MoFo SF, Latham LA, GDC LA, OMM LA, MTO LA). And, of course, class sizes are generally smaller at California firms/offices than they are for NYC V20.

NYC was not "hit the most" by the recession, and even if it was the rest of that conclusion makes no sense whatsoever.

Jeez..... Last summer, Stroock reported 23 SA positions on NALP. I guess they re-considered midstream and cut back in order to avoid a 'Kasowitz' fiasco. This runs counter to my hope of a return to larger classes at NYC.
You should have extinguished that hope a long time ago. Unless there's some sort of broader economic recovery, big time summer classes are extent at all but maybe 10-15 firms.

Yeah, I know....under pressure on multiple fronts (client deamands, legal market, and tech/software). But I was hoping that firms would at least stick to their original NALP figures. Then we see mid-OCI retrenchment by Kasowitz, and now Stroock.
We also see Willkie hiring 48 in NYC when they hired 47 in NYC back in 2006 according to Law Firm Addict so I don't think it's time for full scale depression.

Jeez..... Last OCI, Stroock reported 23 available SA positions on NALP. I guess they re-considered midstream and cut back in order to avoid a 'Kasowitz' fiasco. This runs counter to my hope of a return to larger classes at NYC.
My experience was that they were pretty up front about decreasing their class size. Seems others had a similar experience. This is from the Penn OCI thread in August:
Stroock 2013 summer class 23 this summer 15. It's bad out there people. Plan accordingly. Mass mail mid size and maybe shit law too.
But its obviously not a good sign regardless.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
