Let's try to take as many jobs from the nontransfers as possible!

Hey Fate/SHIA/kalano, next time I ban your alts, don't log into your original account and ask me to help you edit out your "friend"'s posts.soj wrote:Did you really think I wouldn't recognize your alt, SHIA? kalano has been permabanned, and SHIA has been banned for three days for alting. Next time it's perma for all your accounts and IPs.

Alting is against the forum rules. I'm not sure what you know about TLS user statistics that I don't, but most TLSers do not alt. Even if they did, I'm not going to let a user mislead other users by posting under different usernames while pretending to be different people and +1ing his own posts.Allbeginsagain in a report wrote:This post OUTS people that others in the thread or school would know and is completely unnecessary. If you're going to ban people then ban them don't out who people are on tls to their entire school because someone made an "alt" account which MOST of TLS does. This should be removed. Completely unnecessary.

In your class, but I know quite a bit about firms/bidding/cutoffs.Anonymous User wrote:slightly more than a point below median. no journal. k-jd. non-urm. any firms in the v-20 in nyc worth bidding? where should they go on my bidlist?
Yeah this. Non-native NYC-v20s are probably your best bet if that's what you're looking for. Paul Weiss is probably a good bid given their class size.Anonymous User wrote:In your class, but I know quite a bit about firms/bidding/cutoffs.Anonymous User wrote:slightly more than a point below median. no journal. k-jd. non-urm. any firms in the v-20 in nyc worth bidding? where should they go on my bidlist?
If you're around 175.8 I would be safer with your bidding. You can throw in a couple of the big firms that has occasionally dropped that low, but with KJD no journal non-urm you need to be an amazing interviewer to have them dip that far below the cutoff, and you want to snag as many non-selective interviews as possible to be sure you get a job.
That being said, you could reach for some satellite offices as they tend to be less selective and could get you into the v20, but I'd caution you against relying solely the vault rankings--just because a firm is ranked higher doesn't mean it's better or has better exit options (especially if you're applying to a satellite office). I would instead look at chambers bands for your practice areas of interest and find some non-selective firms that are strong in that area--this will get you better work, and better exit options from that practice area, and a better shot at a solid starting point for a career.
It's unlikely you'll get any of these through the lottery. Given grades, you have a decent shot at some of them (less so with Sidley, Kirkland), but if you'er not wanting to waste high bids on them (as they would require) I would try to sign up the day of and not waste bids in the 30s (unlikely this bid will matter anyway, but you might as well use it on a firm you have a chance of snagging an interview with).Anonymous User wrote:176.6 k-jd no journal. Want to stay in Chicago. I've put the major firms (Kirkland, Sidley, Jones Day, Jenner, Latham, Skadden, Mayer) in the 30s in order to make room for firms I have a better shot with and I doubt I'd get any of them in the lottery.
Even though I know it's a long shot, I am interested in Sidley, Mayer, Jones and Jenner. Does it make sense to try to get them in the lottery or would it be a waste of a slot? I can always try to sign up the day of, would that be a smarter move?

Not to sound harsh, but you should NOT be worried about Vault rankings at this point. You should be worried about finding any job. You should be mass mailing NOW, and you should certainly focus the vast majority of your bids on firms that are known to not be grade selective, which pretty much rules out all the V20.Anonymous User wrote:slightly more than a point below median. no journal. k-jd. non-urm. any firms in the v-20 in nyc worth bidding? where should they go on my bidlist?
+1 to all of this. You guys, especially below median, need to be EXTREMELY careful in bidding. And you need to mass mail NOW and hustle NOW.Emma. wrote:Not to sound harsh, but you should NOT be worried about Vault rankings at this point. You should be worried about finding any job. MTO, Irell, KVN (not that it sounds like you want CA). W&C. Probably the Boies NY office too.Anonymous User wrote:179, no journal, one year of WE. Are there any firms that would be wasted bids? The callback report tells me that I should avoid Boies DC, Simpson Thatcher DC, and Wachtell, but I assume that there are others given that I have no journal.
Boies will dip. NY Corporate and DC offered T2 transfers without journals last year.Emma. wrote:MTO, Irell, KVN (not that it sounds like you want CA). W&C.
