Potentially stupid question from a 1L: Why are all of the reports ITT only for NY offices? Do the other offices keep their associate classes a closely guarded secret, or do you all only care about NYC?

Well, we had a couple Boston offices post, but they were two of the three biggest Boston summer classes.

And that's more to the point. NYC has larger sized classes. This means (1) There's a greater likelihood of anyone posting the data if you have 85 people with that information than if you have, say, 10, and (2) The smaller the SA class, the more fear (perhaps irrational) of being outed as the guy-who-leaked-something. So, it's more about class size than only caring about NYC, I'd venture

(If someone from the Midwest or West Coast wants to swoop in and post that the convention over there is to not give the SAs this info, I'll concede to their explanation.)

Yeah, it can definitely happen. Without getting into specifics, I know that my firm could have had at least 15 more people in the summer class if everyone had accepted their offer that was still outstanding at the time I talked to the firm.

They definitely had lots more accept than they thought. There's 16 going from SLS alone.

Yeah, it can definitely happen. Without getting into specifics, I know that my firm could have had at least 15 more people in the summer class if everyone had accepted their offer that was still outstanding at the time I talked to the firm.

It's not that big of a deal if they get too many acceptances. The firm will adjust accordingly the next hiring cycle after seeing what the final yield after the summer is.

I guess that 95 instead of 80 wouldn't be that big of a deal. But if the firm was shooting for around 15, adding another 10-15 on top of that would be quite a lot.

Just to be clear, I don't at all think GDC having 15 vs. 7-8 is at all a problem. Mine was more of a general observation, that it is in fact possible, though very unlikely, that a firm could end up with (significantly) more SAs than they wanted. But again, very unlikely in practice.

Well in the past 3 years, GDC has had 14, 11, and 16 SAs in their OC office. So 15 this year hardly seems out of the ordinary.

Last year my friend and his handful of future coworkers at midlaw were exchanging emails about housing etc. during the spring. In contrast, in my group this year, this one girl added everyone on linkedin way back in like January (which I thought was a little overzealous). Since then, complete radio silence.

My feeling is that there'll be plenty of togetherness time over the summer and "hey what's up guys" emails would be a little grating, but contacting each other about housing and stuff makes tons of sense.

I find the school distribution here interesting (UC-Irvine, but not Boalt, Mason, but not GW)--how many slots are preselected for particular schools?
