On a Saturday? I guess the recruiting offices of some firms are still pumping out callbacks on the weekend then?

Or were you just now getting to this thread?

And the rejections. I just got an email from Jones Day. Sigh.

Me too, though my interviewer (Warren) was kinda a jerk from the start (he sort of accused me at the beginning of not even being interested in the firm because of the partial-lottery system).

Warren was a dick. He started off every interview with, "Do you have any questions about the firm?" I thought it was a contrived attempt at an "unconventional" interview and a power play. But maybe my perception is colored by the fact that I just got the Jones Day ding, too.

On another note, does anyone else with middling-but-not-great grades and a secondary journal think they were encouraged to overbid? I've heard it from a couple people now... almost everyone I know who's rolling in callbacks (congrats, guys) are top-ten-percenters on law review. Meanwhile, Suzanne Hess gave a solid confirmation of my bid list, but I'm drowning in rejections over here. I bid all moderate firms, and I'm thinking I should have put a lot of flexible firms higher up.

I've heard a few people talk about being encouraged to overbid (via an approval of an overbid list) with moderate grades, so you're definitely not the only one.

Also, this week has pointed out a flaw with the bid->journal decisions->resume system. I know some people in the top 10% who aren't on law review, and while they got a a few callbacks, it's night and day compared to those who have both. In the future, they need to reverse the bid deadline and the journal decision dates so bids can be based on what, if any, journal you make it on.

Because apparently, journal decisions have a big impact on where you should bid and in the current system, you don't find out until it's too late.

Yes, yes. Absolutely yes. I bid both flexible and moderate firms, but I definitely was an auto-reject for most of the moderate firms. Thanks, Dean DeRosa. If I had it to do over again, I would have only bid on the flexible firms. Sure they might not be as "prestigious," but I'd much prefer a $160K job to striking out...

Partial lottery?
I'm not the person who you quoted, but our lottery is modified by our bidding system. In a pure-random-lottery system, people from any part of the grade-spectrum would be getting interviews with Cravath, and the #1 person might be interviewing with firms that were flexible on grades and paid below market.

I've heard of 1 CB secondhand. Have not heard or seen a rejection yet. Likely snail mail.

Like the person a few replies up, I've talked to two people with callbacks from Simpson.

I've yet to hear anything, though, so I'm assuming a ding by snail mail.

For those of you who have heard from Latham and Kirkland: which offices?

This may be early, but what's the cb/gpa ratio? Have 4 callbacks with a 3.4, secondary journal.

Median, secondary journal, 1 cb. Either I'm an aspie or firms REALLY care about grades this year.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
