I think the strongest point in that Carter line (and the reason for my posting it) was regarding our overindulgence and consumption being the primary purpose in our lives.
I see it as kind of a shot at Ayn Rand.

shit, we agree on something? The entire concept of everyday US Americans and such as the China having $20k+ lines of credit to spend frivolously completely blows my mind.romothesavior wrote: I am a staunch economic conservative who is mortified by the national debt and lavish, albeit debt-ridden lifestyle of the American public. woah woah woah...joking dude!! I get that war is a serious issue that I would never really endorse unless China attacked us (or i guess taiwan) first. I know how horrible war is and how bad it can affect our economy, i was just joking, but it was probably a bit out of line.General Tso wrote:I don't really care for the cavalier attitude young Americans have towards war. I know you are just joking, but consider the thousands of people who have already died and the billions (almost a trillion by now) of dollars that have been flushed down the toilet over the last 10 years.KingJames6 wrote:war with china would rev up the economy nicely

Huh, maybe someone should have told him that unemployment doesn't put him on the management track either.General Tso wrote:Apparently it was an entry-level claims adjuster position with little room for advancement. He was looking for something that would put him on a management track.tkgrrett wrote:Wait.. I felt sorry for that kid until I read that he went to Colgate and majored in PoliSci with a minor in History yet turned down a 40k Insurance job and desperately wants to work in Finance. Who on earth does he think he is??
But yeah...polisci major is dumb move. What to study though? Outside of finance and health fields, there isn't much else out there worthwhile. Certain technical fields like biochemistry are booming, others like electrical engineering, not so much.
