It's a lot different. OP was complaining about the regular considerations and risks that go into employment searching. It has nothing to do with striking out and being unable to find something. 3L hiring is exponentially less difficult with a 2L SA on the resume. The top 15% HYSC addition was also lol. Even if OP didn't land BL, they definitely would have landed something assuming (1) they didn't want to spend a year away and then lateral, and (2) weren't overly picky.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 1:15 pmWell, the original point of this thread was as haven for people who had to job search during 3L because they struck out at OCI or got no-offered, so a little different.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 12:30 pmI thought I had to relocate to take care of a family member and the firms I talked all said "we are only hiring based on the number of people who don't accept their offers" so yeah, it was stressful to have whether or not I could be there for family feel out of my hands, regardless of stats or schools.
Things worked themselves out, but what point is there in invalidating someone's stress.

Gibson & Covington (both specific to a "non-target" group for DC tho)Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:42 pmwhich DC firms?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 2:26 pmReceived offer at 2L summer firm, re-recruited due to changes to person circumstance, received 2 offers in DC (received both the at end of August). Has anyone heard back from STB who interviewed like 2 weeks ago? It's my top choice and haven't heard back yet so I'm a bit worried/maybe should give up hope and move on? Thanks all

Market seems incredibly slow lately. Hardly any postings for 3Ls/entry-level attorneys.

Just got laid off after finding post Grad employment for six months. Have no idea where to start. Probably not qualified for big law, Top 25 law school but bottom half of my class... Looking to go to a major metropolitan (JAX DC NYC MIA ORL DAL HOU), midlaw is fine but can someone point me in the direction of a place that might take me on???

I wouldn't worry too much off the bat. You're still relatively new- and honestly, T1 schools are perfectly fine. What do you want to do? What was your employment in? I'd start reaching out to either a recruiter in areas you want to be or consider looking at folks and going to coffee with folks in your immediate area. Do you want to be an ADA/PD? Do you want to do transactional or litigation work? I'd just see what you want to do and go from there. Then call folks who do that and ask them how they got there and see if they can give you someone else to talk to. Don't give up hope and try reaching out with whatever you can! I'd also talk to your school CDO and see what they can do to help.billxcarter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 1:43 amJust got laid off after finding post Grad employment for six months. Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
OP here. So I’ve been offered a job paying essentially the same, but it’s in ID and I don’t want to be trapped there. But I can’t go without a paycheck and I’ve got roughly 6 weeks to figure it out. I’ve talked to recruiters and I’m just not finding anything. I think labor and employment would be a good gig though. I like both litigation and transactional work though and I’d like to be paid <100,000$ I’m not being greedy I just know my worth on that point.

Fair enough. ID can lead to L&E work if you get some years under your belt. I understand the know your worth bit, but you've gotta eat and if nobody is going to pay you what you'd like to earn, it just makes the decision easier. I'd keep looking for a bit but if in a month nothing has come up, I'd bite the bullet. Doesn't mean you can't keep searching for things though.

Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
On the one hand it’s way better to need a job in 2022/2023 than 2014 when I graduated law school. On the other it’s weird to me that someone would be indifferent as between NYC, Dallas, and Jacksonville. The only market I know anything about is so hard up for ADAs that the big city is hiring everyone that applies, but outlying jurisdictions have been desperate for bodies for 30 years. So instead of spraying to Dallas and NYC, it may make more sense to apply to Abilene or Amarillo or smaller markets around the place you actually want to be.crazywafflez wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 4:03 pmI wouldn't worry too much off the bat.
