For anyone interested and who has access to Saks Off 5th, they are running a killer sale through Tuesday. I just picked up a Zegna suit for $400.

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
5th Ave is only a wee step down in formality from the Park Ave, which means it's formal enough for absolutely all business occasions. The Park Ave can also work with black tie, which is an added bonus. (Pufer will probably kill me for saying that, but without getting into an absurd debate about black tie--a subject about which I have very strong feelings--I will merely say that wearing Park Aves with a dinner jacket is generally a sign that you own your own dinner clothes, whereas more of the people wearing patent leather have rented. And without reviving the button-down debate, if that's possible, I would like to just mention that I saw button-downs on four partners who interviewed me at three different V10 firms. Granted, it says nothing about aesthetics or style, but it certainly says something about acceptability.)ApexChaser wrote:Thoughts on the Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue in black?

I prefer them over the Park Avenue or Johnston and Murphy Melton but am wondering what the general TLS population thinks. I'm really more of a slip-on guy and my only oxfords need replacing.

That site looks awesome. Did you use measurements you did, the default they give you, or did you have it done by a tailor?GodSpeed wrote:Got my suit in. I'm extremely happy with it for the price. It fits way better than off the rack, but the shoulders are about 1/4" too big (still miles ahead of OTR). Material is fantastic. I have working sleeve buttons. I paid $300 for it. Awesome.GodSpeed wrote:I just got my shirts from tailor4less.com
Holy shit. They fit perfectly the first time. Granted, I was measuring a made to measure shirt, but fuck- I paid $60 for a 100% cotton made to measure shirt. I'd highly recommend it.

I think I like moderntailor.com better. if nothing else, you can get your first shirt for $20.

Brooks Brothers is IMHO the gold standard for suits. They are GREAT for interviews. They are
conservatively elegant.

Cheap they aren't. However, I got one on EBAY for $70. It did need a bit of tailoring, but it's hot. Givency makes a gorgeous suit.nooyyllib wrote:they make great suits but I think they are only reserved for 40+ year olds.texaslawyer wrote:Brooks Brothers is IMHO the gold standard for suits. For the newly minted lawyer, Dolce Gabana makes a nice suit, as does Hugo Boss. Also, Hart Shaffner Marx makes some hot looking suits. My favorite, Jones New York. They are really sharp and reasonably priced. I have 2-3 Jones New York suits.

HSM makes more boxy/American cut suits. Hugo Boss are very slim cut. Odds are, you shouldn't own both (I do, but HSM doesn't fit me all that well). LOL @ DG suits.

DG suits are nice, but they are stingy with the fabric. I have a very nice Givency, three button blue herringbone, $1000 off the rack, I gotGodSpeed wrote:texaslawyer wrote:Cheap they aren't. for $50 on EBAY. HSM does fit me, but DG not well. I have a charcoal DKNY that fits me nicely. I have 40 suits, most of which I bought on EBAY and in thrift stores. Somebody has to buy retail, but not me !

I'm telling you, check out Saks Off 5th. I got a Zegna for $400, and they had Armani for $600-$700. Calvin Klein for $200 and Boss for around $300 - $350.

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
yeah i know i get coupons from there too. but the quality of material the two stores near my house (not lawschool) has been going down hill like crazy. But yeah, they have killer deals where buy one suit and get another for free. I'm still a student and my body weight is fluctuating (just gave up gym for 1L) so I'm trying to survive meanwhile with my Nautica suit I got at Macy's in undergrad. Once i lose weight a little more I'm going to Saks 5th especially when they have that buy one get one free deal.kalvano wrote:nooyyllib wrote:I'm just an 1L but hopefully I can afford those suits (Boss, armani, etc).

Yup. They have all the brands, and when they run a sale, it's impressive.

I got this suit at macy's.
It's great for the skinnier guy (fit nearly perfect off the rack).

I'm not sure how people buy suits that aren't separates, made to measure, or bespoke. (I don't buy bespoke
