I'm seriously tempted to start a new thread to recount my story of what happened. It's probably not ATL-worthy only because it didn't happen at a bigger firm. The only downside is that if the employer was reading it that'd instantly out me. It's not so much the argument that was noteworthy but what the argument was about...

The vast majority of people in law shouldn't even be in law (i.e., people who hate what they do, around 75% of lawyers), so I'm sure we can let this one slide.rpupkin wrote:You should seriously consider finding another career (or at least a career in the law that does not entail working at a firm). OP again. To add to the above: in fact, I'm pretty sure if I were fired as a permanent employee for doing what I did, it would make for a great employment law case. Not in the I'm-super-litigious sense, but in the there-is-no-case-law-in-my-circuit sense.Anonymous User wrote:I'm seriously tempted to start a new thread to recount my story of what happened. No, not really. I can just understand being short with the passive aggressive behavior that some people exhibit. It's also extremely easy to not give a fuck if you have an offer locked down already.Mal Reynolds wrote:Lol I smell a k-jdLRGhost wrote:Or you just get fed up with the false decorum.El Pollito wrote:Maybe his fake assignments were like really hard man.

Good to know, though if I get an offer I'm leaping on it and bear hugging it for the next year so no one can take it from me. No waiting required.

Yeah keeping your mouth shut when you know what's good for you is a terrible life skill to have.LRGhost wrote:(millennial who thanks partner for covering his suit in semen)Mal Reynolds wrote:K-JD

Yeah, being something other than a pushover when you have a different offer in hand is obviously a life skill.Mal Reynolds wrote:Yeah keeping your mouth shut when you know what's good for you is a terrible life skill to have.LRGhost wrote:(millennial who thanks partner for covering his suit in semen)Mal Reynolds wrote:K-JD
If you don't have a job lined up or you care about your future at your firm, don't get into an argument with a partner. But even then, let's not pretend that it's not a passive aggressive job where your job is to swallow a lot of cock and be grateful that it's not too girthy. Being pliable and submissive isn't a life skill. It's an unfortunate requirement.

I don't know which market the dude is in but the legal market in most cities is fairly small. We don't know the extent of arguing with the partner here or the reasons for it, but having another offer is not a good reason to forget how to behave in a work place.LRGhost wrote:Yeah, being something other than a pushover when you have a different offer in hand is obviously a life skill.Mal Reynolds wrote:Yeah keeping your mouth shut when you know what's good for you is a terrible life skill to have.LRGhost wrote:(millennial who thanks partner for covering his suit in semen)Mal Reynolds wrote:K-JD

He was working for 10 weeks as a SA (presumably for a much shorter period of time at the second firm since he split the summer). Barring absurd circumstances, I would suggest shutting up and bending the fuck over instead of snapping because you are tired of acting professional (again for only 10 fucking weeks as a SA where you are basically a waste of space).

I'm not saying it's not dumb but the dude seems fairly nonchalant about it. If he doesn't care, berating him like he doesn't know he committed a faux pas is dumb as shit. Obviously it's bad to yell at your boss. I doubt an SA who does that cares. I want my job. If I had multiple offers or a well off family or a career I could go back to before this, I'd probably be more likely to say "fuck it" fairly quick. Maybe not during an SA but are we really going to chastise the dude for something he doesn't care that much about? He should be ostracized for not sharing the story.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
