They have been going out since Thursday, so I highly doubt they'll stop today. I cancelled mine in favor of the LA office and others might do the same so I'd be surprised if they were just over

So you were offered both Skadden LA AND Skadden NY and then Skadden made you choose one of the two?

Not OP but someone with Skadden NY and LA callbacks.

I don't think I have to choose at all. Maybe when I accept an offer, I don't know how they handle splitting but I don't want to ask until I have two offers. Nothing's indicated I have to choose now, though.

Edit: I cancelled a Shearman CB today. Hopefully that frees it up for one of you.

Skadden interviews separately for each office (and to split you need an offer from both offices); I think the anon just really prefers LA and didn't feel the need to have NY as a backup. Also, their recruiting website is set up to handle callbacks for multiple offices.

I am starting to worry. Can someone please allay my fears by answering these questions (also for the benefit of everyone else!):

(1) If a firm (e.g. Cravath) has given out callbacks today, does it mean that if I don't get a call I am out? How do firms decide who to call back first?

(2) Approximately when do most of the V10-20 firms give call-backs? Assuming we have just had 2 days of EIP

1. It's interviewer-dependent way more than firm-dependent. Different interviewers from the same firm may go out on different days. However, an interviewer typically does all their calls at once, so if your interviewer has given out CBs and you don't have one, you're likely out.

2. Impossible to say. Most callbacks seem to go out within two or three days, but some have been reported to take upwards of a couple weeks. That's why stressing out about this now is fairly pointless.

All of this, except it's not a given that an interviewer does all their calls at once (or even all on the same day, though it's probably rare that they'd not)—an example from last year's thread was someone who made one call, but then had to do a few hours of work before they had time to do more. I think they try to do one big call block, but they're busy people.

Definitely agreed. As stated above, it seems as though a given interviewer is likely to make all their calls at once, it's not certain. Past threads have detailed that people do occasionally get calls from the same interviewer on different days.

What's the definition of "out of town" for call back hotels? If we lived somewhere else for the summer that is an hour away from NYC, but in-state, is it okay to ask for a hotel or no? It's not that the commute would be impossible but it would be more convenient.

What's with the Gibson Dunn dinner thing? Is it something that they invited some of their interviewees out to, presumably the ones who will get callbacks? Had an interview with their NYC office but didn't hear anything about a dinner until recently.

Anon above. CB's at both NY and LA and the NY interviewer made it rather obvious that while she/he was "formally" extending the callback she/he was aware of both invitations and acted on the bizarre assumption that I was less than enthused and would be splitting offices at best. I guess I can't really blame her/him but also they did say they allowed multiple interviews. Overall the NY side was a rather unpleasant experience and I'm pursuing other less contentious opportunities in New York instead (whereas the Skadden LA CB was remarkably warm and genuine).

Well in the last 3 years it's been between 4-5 callbacks. However, it sounds like there were two dinners for LA so that's 12 so maybe a bit more than one, unfortunately.
