Anyone who is jobless should know that if you gun for midlaw, or a district court clerkship and there after biglaw 3L year, you should be able to lock up a job with Chicago on your resume.
I have friends who did both after getting no offered/ or not given a 2L position.

what exactly is "midlaw," like NALP firms that pay below market? or is there another listing for finding these firms?

Re: UChicago 2011 OCI Discussion and Results
Do some research in your local market. About half of them are on NALP in my regional. The others are not but can be found on other law firm indexes. They generally pay 105k+ starting, and your chances at making partner are a ton higher than most biglaw because 1)They have lower leverage numbers, and 2) They rarely get Chicago students.Anonymous User wrote:what exactly is "midlaw," like NALP firms that pay below market? or is there another listing for finding these firms?

That is harder. Have you been rejected by every biglaw shop in town yet?Anonymous User wrote:my local market is NYC, am i going to find such firms there?
I think your best path may be to gun for a district clerkship. Thereafter you can mass mail and get an entry position pretty easily, unless your grades are really low.

Do you mean go for a district clerkship 2L summer? Sorry, I don't know ANYTHING about clerkships. Any advice on where to begin? Was hoping to start at a Chi firm after graduation...

I would start first with attending the clerkship meeting being held Nov 11. You should've received an e-mail with a link to RSVP.Anonymous User wrote:Do you mean go for a district clerkship 2L summer? Sorry, I don't know ANYTHING about clerkships. No sarcasm: have you all spoken to OCS to see what their view is?
