This is still effectively below-market, right, since JD doesn't pay bonuses? If so I assume no one will care.

Jones Day definitely pays bonuses right? They may be black box but they still pay them.
I think them moving to 210k is a big deal and other big firms should absolutely match that. Even though JD gets shit on here, I think the collective legal market views them as a peer to other big firms.

no they dont give bonuses. its baked into the next pay raise which is delayed half a year and much below what you would otherwise be making elsewhere. this is why they get shit on here.

Midlevel at firm that announced full dpw match effective July first. As such, I was expecting to see that raise on July 2nd payday. But my pay is…the same?
Should the raise have properly been interpreted as my time being compensated on the new scale beginning July 1, meaning I’ll see the raise two weeks later…or is there a problem I should take the time to look into?

Pay raise effective on July 1 should show up in July 15th pay.

Why don’t we have a facepalm emoji? Are you seriously a biglaw mid level? Do you also expect to see your pay decline when you move into a higher tax bracket?

What does your pay stub say? My check was higher and by the exact amount to reflect a July 1 effective date. If you don't know how to read your pay stub then lol

Yeah, nobody is going to feel pressure to match JD. Any law student who has spent 10 minutes on google looking at the firm knows that they are below market all in.

Any word on when Ropes will actually deliver the match they promised on the Town Hall a fortnight ago?
Just FYI my increase shows up on the eHR comp history.

Anyone have a listing showing who matched and when effective? I’m at Foley & Lardner and they matched, but not effective until Feb 2022 (also they didn’t match upper level scale, only announced first year). Management noted in their announcement that it was a mixed bag of being effective July and at a later date, but from what I’ve seen most are effective July 1. Would like to provide something to the associate committee rep showing why management is missing the ball here.

Above the law is not good for much, but they do have a tracker for this:
https://abovethelaw.com/2021/06/salary- ... cker-2021/
You will have to click in to find out the effective dates for each one, but almost all are July 1, 2021.

My firm paid market spring COVID bonuses but has been silent on raises. Anyone else dealing with the same thing? It looks like most firms that paid spring COVID bonuses also did raises. I'm not sure if we're just really slow or if we've missed the boat completely.

desmarais failed to raise salaries for anyone below ~6th years. they were already above market with 210, now they are only 5k above instead of 20k.

Same. Our summer program is about to end and I'm hoping the raises come then due to fear that our summers will go to a firm that raised.

Wait so...Skadden retention bonuses were entirely false? Should I stop signing up for pro bono to bring me to 2000 annualization?
Skadden’s big news was that they lowered the number of class years to become counsel from 7.5 to 6.5.
To be fair, I guess that’s nice to hear if you’re a Skadden mid level who is considering sticking it out, but yeah it wasn’t anything interesting to the wider community.
Ok back like 10 pages people were saying they knew mid/seniors being called by partners to make sure they got their hours in and are annualizing at 2000. The lowering of class years doesn't really fit with that?
Also, the news is non-news even for Skadden since in almost every practice, it takes more than 7.5 years to make counsel (except maybe M&A).
Yeah pretty sure that was just trolling from whoever said that. Doesn’t really make sense to be announcing new special bonuses when (a) salaries just got raised and (b) they haven’t even paid the second half of the first special bonuses yet.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the bonus scale went up this year but we’re months away from the first announcements on EOY bonuses.
So apparently this is actually happening after all. 6 figure reten bonuses for midlevels in multiple practice groups.

Emails will follow, practice group heads are just calling associates in one-offs right now. Not clear if it's black box or uniform across class years or what, but it's *not* uniform among practice groups (I.e., exec comp midlevels getting different amounts than M&A, etc.). Once an email goes around (which might not be today, but will come eventually) you'll have heard it here first.
ETA -- my impression is several people have tipped ATL off and that calls have been going around to associates for several days now, but ATL is also waiting to see a firm-wide email or similar which just literally hasn't happened yet.

Seconded. I hear even juniors are getting 30-50k in the hot groups.

I’ve only heard about M&A, but was told by an M&A partner that it is also in other groups but not uniform (and she indicated I should not share the M&A number with other groups, which struck me as weird because of course it’ll all leak anyway).
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
