Came in only wanting corp. Hating it more and more each day, lost all interest in deals. I love research and writing, but I heard doc review is literal hell and lit exits are awful.

Advice?
I mean if you actually like research and writing (which is the worst) maybe do restructuring?

Yeah just yesterday an associate recommended I look into bk. Heard it's slow right now but maybe worth a look.

Also, anyone know if bk exits are decent? Hard to imagine many companies wanting to bring bk lawyer in house.

Im working in-house at one of the big banks and there's definitely a team of in-house bk lawyers
but the senior counsel i've been assigned to (who works in the bk/asset recovery dept) has told me the market's pretty piss poor for bk lawyers right now

FWIW that was all that CIT, WaMu, MF, Thornburg, GM, Chrysler et. al did for several years. The Lehman bankruptcy lawyers hired in 2008 actually turned out to get basically ten-year gigs.

They're still having hearings on that. But, it was the biggest chapter 11 ever...

Can't speak specifically to it, but I've hard they're pretty favorable, especially from the top bk feeders. I think the takeaway is just that lit is shit. My summer class actually had outside firms wooing the restructuring summers a couple weeks in and one dude used just the summer to just springboard into distressed financing at a very solid i-bank out of law school (w/o the mba).

If they paid to get us to the firm, is assumed they will pay to get us back to school or should I start planning that?

I wouldn't say it's assumed, but my firm does both. Do you have a secretary or assistant who does reimbursements for you? You should ask them if your travel home will be reimbursed.

TBF, I think the safe thing is just to assume or let the associate handle it unless you are directly called on. I don't think the partners put much thought into replying to emails or care if a summer is on the chain

You're probably right. This shit is typical of the group I'm in though. I can see it across all associates and staff. Todays just another day where it's frustrating enough to need to vent.
