No its a small firm. I've tried to communicate that I would rather not give out my personal cell number or school email but have been brushed off repeatedly. Am I crazy for caring about this?rpupkin wrote:and

Small firms do all kinds of weird shit. Just roll with whatever the practice is at your firm.twixt wrote:No its a small firm. Was starting to think I was crazy for caring about it.rpupkin wrote:That's very strange. Are you working at a big law office?Anonymous User wrote:Is anyone else's firm making you use your own cell phone and school email for work stuff? Like communicating with clients, sending out contracts, etc? I don't have my own phone in my office and they haven't given me a firm email.
If they are brushing you off "repeatedly" about a particular thing, and if you keep insisting on doing that thing a different way, then you are kind of crazy. If you want to work there long-term, change your attitude and approach.

Leverage = use of borrowed money (i.e., not the capital contributions from the partners) to fund parts of the firm's operations. The more the firm uses debt to fund its operations over the availability of cash on hand means it is highly leveraged.Anonymous User wrote:We have a presentation by a few partners next Monday. Heard they talk a lot about the firm's leverage. Can someone explain law firm leverage like I'm 5.

No, in the law firm context it refers to the ratio of partners to other attorneys.

Is there likely to be any warning in our mid-summer reviews if we are getting no-offered?

Likely, yes. But I know of folks who got no-offered despite fine mid-summer reviews.Anonymous User wrote:Is there likely to be any warning in our mid-summer reviews if we are getting no-offered?

high leverage when business is booming can be a great thing for many firms because lots of associates billing equals $$$$
High leverage (like 7 associates for every partner) when work slows is bad because suddenly those salaries turn to 160k+ liabilities
If too much time passes without work, people start getting shitcanned
That's my shallow understanding in a nutshell

I feel retarded at my firm. I'm not very good at drafting memos, I'm not very good at researching novel areas of the law, and I'm not very good at operating the computer systems

How much worse is doc review than diligence.
Came in only wanting corp. Hating it more and more each day, lost all interest in deals. I love research and writing, but I heard doc review is literal hell and lit exits are awful.
Advice?
