Grew up in TX, live in NYC for 5 years. Only thing I care about is the 10% city+state tax, worst thing ever(especially with the new tax plan).
Renting difference is whatever but if you ever want to buy, TX is so much better. No 2-3k monthly fees ontop of your mortgage. Such bullshit.

Income tax is real reason I don't think ny worth it. You can always find a reasonable apt or justify an expensive one, but the extra tax is a tough hitAnonymous User wrote:Grew up in TX, live in NYC for 5 years. What I don't get is why there's so many anons with sick burns ITT. Come out of the shadows and take credit for this sick burn. I'm looking for just one more reason to lateral and not matching would be one of them. And I'm a bonified top quality associate.Anonymous User wrote:These are the associates you are left with if you don't matchAnonymous User wrote:It doesn’t just come down to salary for me. You get different opportunities and cultures vary at different firms. Obviously want to see the scale raised across the board, but if that doesn’t happen, it’s still not so cut and dry for me.

I just googled what a bodega is. How is that better than living by a normal sized grocery store in Texas? The grocery strore by my house is 24 hours and has like 40 aisles of selection.

It's not. New Yorkers all suffer from a weird form of Stockholm Syndrome.JusticeJackson wrote:I just googled what a bodega is. How is that better than living by a normal sized grocery store in Texas? The grocery strore by my house is 24 hours and has like 40 aisles of selection.

Is your grocery store literally downstairs? Do the 2 guys working behind the counter at 4am greet you excitedly by name and ask if it'll be the grilled cheese, the rueben, or maybe the chicken tenders this time? Would those same guys refrain from shaming you when you stumble in at 10am and can't even mouth the words "coffee and advil," but it's no big deal because they know exactly what you need? Worth closet apartments, city + state tax, horrible hours, and a failing subway system every time. Don't @ me

40 aisles? Who cares. Bigger isn't always better, Texas. Except when it comes to salary increases.JusticeJackson wrote:I just googled what a bodega is. Re: NYC to 200k
I think it’s about living in a place that doesn’t feel completely homogenous or corporatized. East coast cities have a certain unique/old/organic feel to them that southern and midwestern cities lack. Of course that’s true to varying degrees within each city so YMMV but if the only places I could go are Buffalo Wild Wings and wallmart I’d be pretty bummed. Also I’d rather not have to drive anywhere so I like NYC over Houston or LA.dabigchina wrote:It's not. This criticism applies more to Wichita and places like that - I’ve never been to Houston.

I don't live in NY (west coast market), but NY is dope, especially for the bodega situations given above. And all of the different restaurants and bars, which are all unique and not corporate. B dubs (buffalo wild wings) is cool and all, but god I'd hate if that was the only place I could spend my $200k on a cocktail...

Re: NYC to 200k
Yea ny is way better than Texas. Don't need a car, ridiculous selection of bars, bodegas, restaurants every few blocks. Wide selection of people and cultures, etc. Bars closing at 2 is completely unacceptable by itself.Anonymous User wrote:I don't live in NY (west coast market), but NY is dope, especially for the bodega situations given above. Lol, I know this is hyperbole, but that’s not anywhere near the case in any city with big law.Anonymous User wrote:I don't live in NY (west coast market), but NY is dope, especially for the bodega situations given above. SF market checking in. Higher rent than NY (yes, arguably, but shut up), and everything closes at 9pm. We're the best.

Haha. Alright sorry to derail. I actually really like NY, I just never saw the little markets as a major draw.

The fact that dollar pizza slices haven’t been brought up in defense of NYC leads me to believe that none of “y’all” actually live here. Egregious oversight. Bodega pizza is best pizza.

Obviously it's mostly texans trying to make it look like people prefer NYC, thus justifying the higher relative pay to attract people to markets like TX

Let's stop pretending we still cook. $10 seamless minimum for 300 restaurants in NYC delivered to your door at any hour. Can CA or TX match?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
