I believe Cadwalader NYC is only interviewing SEO alumni, many of whom have already had CBs since December/early January. Paul Weiss and WilmherHale NYC also usually hire their 1Ls through SEO.

I believe Cadwalader NYC is only interviewing SEO alumni, many of whom have already had CBs since December/early January. Paul Weiss and WilmherHale NYC also usually hire their 1Ls through SEO.

When a firm doesn't offer you 1L SA but offers you a callback for 2L OCI, does this generally mean you have a leg up/advantage at that callback?

Had a firm call me Tuesday morning to set up interview. I missed the call because of class. Voicemail said they want to do an interview and I should respond to her email with my availability. I did that immediately.

I'm certain that I'm being anxious and overthinking...but how long is reasonable until she schedules me? I just like this firm and don't want to fall through some crack and be forgotten about.

Is this Skadden chicago? I heard they sent out interview requests Tuesday.

probably not, but you have a leg up on the rest of the poor 2Ls who have to do screeners/get through the mass mail pile.

fyi, this is a pretty nice outcome and a very good reason why all 1Ls should mass mail despite the low probability of actually securing a 1L SA.

Yea I got 3 screeners with firms for OCI out of this, so considering I'm not at a T14 that worked out well enough for me.

Had my first interview last week. Still waiting for a callback. Interviewer told me I should hear back in 2 weeks. I know I'm acting impatient, but the general consensus over here seems to agree on callbacks being usually 2-3 days.

If your interviewer explicitly told you two weeks, you should expect to wait two weeks; I'm confused, why should "TLS consensus" matter in this scenario?

I just thought interviewers give a general timeframe.

nah, you'll be fine. I'm sure you rocked the interview. It sounds like (in your specific scenario) the firm might have many more candidates to interview...so it's impossible for them to give you a CB at this time.

If from reading this thread you get the sense that there truly is a general consensus to stuff then you're reading it wrong

People are constantly looking for tea leaves to read and how to read them. For people who have been through this process, there isn't much they can do other than say "Yeah, maybe? Who knows? Just go apply to more jobs, slacker."

Firms/employers are idiosyncratic and things can change from year to year. There are TLS threads in the employment forum that are helpful to get a sense of broad brush generalities of what to expect from certain parts of the process but that's kind of it. Other than that all you can do is chill and hope for the best.

Because interviewers and recruiters say all sorts of shit and always give a 1-2 week window but turnaround times at large firms *tend* to be less than 48 hours for NYC. It's a good lesson to learn for firm recruiting in general. That being said, not trying to cause stress and the 1L timelines are certainly more idiosyncratic -- I've never seen the kind of activity here in the past.
