Re: Columbia EIP 2016
Please I need advice.
I had 20 interviews. Had the following dings by now...
Wachtell
Cravath
Simpson
Weil
Shearman
Paul Weiss
Mcdermott
Sidley
That's 8 dings and the rest on hold. I have just 1 callback with a firm outside v100. I don't know what happened. I have mid stone grades. Is this normal? Should I be happy with my 1 callback?

I don't know what advice you want. 1 callback for mid-Stone is not normal. No, you shouldn't be happy with 1 callback. Shearman in particular is not at all grade selective, and you're above the grade cutoff for the rest of the firms (except Wachtell, for which your grades are too low). There is something seriously wrong with your interviewing, talk to OCS and get some practice in. Though that ship has sailed, really.Anonymous User wrote:Please I need advice.

Re: Columbia EIP 2016
Yea not to freak you out, but it's not normal. It's quite shitty. I would mass mail all the firms you didn't interview with, both* in new york and your home market--some V100 will certainly want an above median CLS grad.Anonymous User wrote:I don't know what advice you want. 1 callback for mid-Stone is not normal. How does mass mailing work?

Re: Columbia EIP 2016
there are a lot of resources, both on here and at OCS, on this subject. basically you set up a mail merge and blast your resume and transcript to every single market paying firm recruiter using their NALP information. have a friend with similar grades look over your resume and compare it to theirs to make sure there isn't a glaring oversight.Anonymous User wrote:How does mass mailing work?

Re: Columbia EIP 2016
Agree that it's not normal. May want someone to work on your resume with you too (I know a few people used the OCS template. Dont. Those resumes have way too much open space and don't really say all that much).Anonymous User wrote:I don't know what advice you want. 1 callback for mid-Stone is not normal. That being said, it's not all over and you need to start moving now. You have a callback interview, so you'll want to work on interviewing with OCS before then. Video tape yourself giving answers to typical questions. I did and I think it definitely helps. And you still have OCI in the fall, which isn't a lot but it's still something.

Re: Columbia EIP 2016
If a firm leaves a cb voicemail, is it okay to call and schedule the next morning? I need to wait to hear back from another firm about scheduling before scheduling this one.
If it matters, they called me at about 3:30pm so it's not like there's that much time to get back to them before their recruiting department leaves for the day.

I don't think a day or two matters but fwiw I had a recruiter call me back at 8pm saying she'd be in the office until 930.Anonymous User wrote:If a firm leaves a cb voicemail, is it okay to call and schedule the next morning? Definitely agree with this. The responses I've gotten for my callback thank you emails show that people really do appreciate it. (Just make sure your email is thoughtful and you couldn't have just copied and pasted it for everyone.)Anonymous User wrote:YES. You want to send a thank you email for a callback. Preferably within 24 hours of your interview.Anonymous User wrote:I guess you're referring to thank yous for screeners. what about callbacks where the conversations are generally a bit extended?stoopkid13 wrote:Not necessary. The thank you won't help you and typos will hurt you. Some people see them as just clogging up they're inbox. That being said I send them anyway after I schedule my callback just to let them know when I'm coming in and that I'd like to drop by if they're free.Anonymous User wrote:thank you emails or no? are they necessary? what's the consensus on this for callbacks?

Do firms normally respond to thank you notes?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
