The NYU trolling is strong in this one.
Might be a little better than NYU, so T4-5. Smile.

Radio silence on my end. Also haven't heard of anyone else getting contacted/offers/CBs through the grapevine, but I may just be out of touch with the right people.

At UT last year there were day of offers from Baker Botts at the evening reception. No idea if that was all the offers they gave out though or if that was standard operating procedure for them.

Dallas and Houston? I just ask because Dallas told me they were not making offers without grades.

Has anyone received an offer from Houston? Interviewed with a number of firms down there over break and have heard nothing back.

What's the best way to handle an interview where the interviewer works in a different practice group than the one you're interested in? (i.e. corporate vs. litigation). Is it better to spend most of the time talking about their practice, so as to keep them engaged, or the one you are more interested in (and more knowledgeable of)?

If you're a 1L, you should be "interested" in both transactional work and litigation

feign interest but admit to being mildly ignorant of what their job actually entails; ask them to explain their typical day; ????; profit

They are still conducting callbacks. They are having a big 1L interview/reception thing this upcoming Tuesday. I imagine decisions will come after.

USAO tomorrow, top choice firm CB friday. Let's hope something works out since apparently it is possible to strike out at pursuing PI.

Aren't you IP? Shouldn't IP + Texas be gold?

This is just me personally, but I would just take the offer. It depends how important the money is to you, whether you would work at the term long term, whether you definitely wouldn't, whether you have a problem with the social pressure of not doing a 2L summer there (or splitting).

But a bird in the hand, ya know?

I think you can absolutely call the firm and tell them about the program invitation and ask if they can give you a decision sooner. They either want to hire you or they don't; another potential offer isn't going to change their decision about you, just lead them to make it sooner rather than later. They may not be able to tell you anything now, but then you're no worse off than you are now.

Is it common for a 1L summer job with a firm to end with an offer to come back 2L summer? Or is 1L summer employment usually just a one-off/standalone gig, and you should plan on having to apply at 2L OCI if you want to come back?

Any 2L/3Ls or graduates can comment on the following scenario:

Had an in-person interview with firm 3 weeks ago. I thought I nailed it.
Sent in my not-so-stellar grades 2 weeks ago.
No response since.

Is it safe to assume I'm out of the running?

Stats: URM, T14, WE

What I mean is that Firm X isn't going to say "we'd like to hire him, but he has a shot at another gig, so we won't." They're going to decide whether to hire you based on whether they want to hire you, not based on your other options. They're not going to give a job to someone else over you when they like you equally but they feel bad for the other person because they don't have your (possible) other option. Often having another possible option just makes you look sought-after as an applicant.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
