(Not a call out, don't mean to be a dick)

Can't decide if freely admitting that you're a luddite in 2015 is a good look or not bc it endears you to boomer management but alienates you from millennial colleagues. Or am I the only person that judges when someone under the age of 30 says "I'm not a computer person"

Make sure you also have a decent spreadsheet to keep track of who has responded, when they responded and what they said.
So basically, don't add a sentence to differentiate the firm from others?

Correct.

I might have gone back in on about 10 to add something if the contact went to the same undergrad as me, or something similar. I also had 3-4 different, generic "why I want your law firm" paragraphs. Then, I just mail-merged the corresponding paragraph when the time came (one for big general firms, one for small boutiques, one for small general, one for big firms without the practice area I wanted, etc.). Plug and play.

EDIT: I should also note that I was looking for something fairly specific. I had a pretty specific skill set and experiences and was looking for something pretty specific. As such, I didn't need to add that much personalization.

10 interviews from mass-mail (varying sizes, salaries and markets). I've done 5 of those interviews and have received 3 callbacks.

I have over fifty letters lined up for mailing on Monday. I plan to double that tomorrow.

I just want to make sure, we should be sending these just to the recruiting contacts, right? Or should we look for hiring partners or other partners?

It feels hard to keep up motivation to keep mass mailing when you've gotten 0 responses from all of these emails. On the bright side, OCI yielded like 6 CBs.

Good for you. Meanwhile we're all floundering for jobs but you have options. Good to know.

So it's not too late to continue mass mailing? I hear CBs and offers are already going out?

Thanks!

What do you say when you've attached a cover letter as well as the resume. Do you write in the cover letter "please find attached my resume"? It sounds weird if the cover letter is an attachment as well.

Sorry if I sound whiny, but this is the kind of comment a "friend" of mine keeps making every day, where he tells me not to worry about the quality of my cover letters or resume or interviews because "my interviews were all terrible and I still got callbacks."

That doesn't help. That just makes me think that dropping out and taking a job as a secretary at a doctor's office back home is a better idea than graduating from a CCN law school.

I normally have a mini-letter in the body of the email that refers to my materials, an official "cover letter" that doesn't refer to any materials, and then my resume and transcript.

My cover letter ends something like "I think my XXX skills would make me an invaluable asset to your firm. I hope to hear from you in the future. Thanks for your time." More formal than that, but something along those lines.

The logic is that, if they want to read the cover letter, they can open it. If not, the body of the email says who I am and why I'm sending them an email, without too many details.

This is a safe place. And fuck your friend. I have a friend that is parading his 5 callbacks. Some people have no tact. Just keep pushing through. It only takes one. And it isn't over until you get the ding.

What are people's thoughts on only getting "sign up online" responses from mass mails? Do people usually get interview offers/cb directly from the initial mass mail, or is this the normal response? Just above median at CCN fwiw.

Yep. The "apply online" response seems to effectively be a ding

So is there any use at all with doing the online form? I've already done them for Weil, WilmerHale, Skadden, Paul Hastings, a host of other places...

Well I mean yeah why not. Until you have that first offer in hand, spending thirty seconds to fill those out is still a better use of your time than, say, reading tea leaves.

I wouldn't stop with the online form though if you really cared about the place. Start up the chain after you've been referred there and havent heard back. If you catch the interest of a partner and they want you to be screened, that's all that will matter.
