Alum: curious what's the reason we see only dings so far on this thread? Is it because the offers are not out yet and or people just don't self report offers? Or, worse, firms aren't handing out as many as offers like they used to in previous years?

I guess people aren’t self-reporting. A handful of people in our section already got offers from NYC or DC firms.

If I got 0 CB from screeners at this point, does this mean I struck out at OCI and shouldn’t be waiting for CBs?

I'm from another T14 but have the same question. Wondering how many firms you haven't heard back yet? Heard this year firms have 'waitlist' so technically unless they send you rejections you are still in the game, but not sure whether firms would still give out any callback one week after the screeners.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:32 amIf I got 0 CB from screeners at this point, does this mean I struck out at OCI and shouldn’t be waiting for CBs?

I haven’t heard from 11 firms. I wonder if firms just ghost you forever without formally rejecting you.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:36 amI'm from another T14 but have the same question. If those firms have sent dings to other people in your school, then you should be on their waitlists.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:44 amI haven’t heard from 11 firms. Different T14, but fwiw — got a CB yesterday after a screener a week and a half ago, so definitely appears possibleAnonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:36 amI'm from another T14 but have the same question. Re: Duke Law OCI Jan 2021
Duke alum here who now is an associate who probably screened some of you reading this. We have three categories for screened candidates: Call them back now, ding them now, do nothing. The “do nothing” group very, very rarely has someone sneak into getting a callback if we get an unusually high number of callback candidates who then decline to even be called back. Almost always, the “do nothings” turn into the “ding them later” group.
Moral of the story: assume you are dinged if you don’t hear back from the firm by 5 PM the day after your screener. And pound the ground/work with your advisor/do what needs to be done to get your foot in the door somewhere now if you don’t have any callbacks.

Are there similar groups for offers too? Or do offers generally take longer than callback extensions?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 3:49 pmDuke alum here who now is an associate who probably screened some of you reading this. Do you have any insight into the callback > offer process? Should we be concerned if we've done a good handful of callbacks and still have no offers nearly a week later? (not NY btw).Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 3:49 pmDuke alum here who now is an associate who probably screened some of you reading this. Re: Duke Law OCI Jan 2021
Same anon associate from above. The CB to offer time frame is MUCH more individualized by firm or even by practice group within firm. We have some specialized practice groups that might take only 1 summer; they will try to interview all the callbacks before extending offers (and dings). For larger practice groups like mine, offers are generally within a couple days but not always. Don’t read into it too much, but at the same time my general advice still stands: keep pounding the ground until you have an offer in hand. The worst thing you can do is sit back and end up without an offer when the music stops and all these firms have filled their classes.

Thank you for this. Can you provide any generalized insight as to what distinguishes a "call back now" vs. a "do nothing", assuming that grades/resume are acceptable for both? Genuine interest in the firm, gut feeling, personal rapport?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 3:49 pmDuke alum here who now is an associate who probably screened some of you reading this. I was offered a callback with them at the end of the screener.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
