Re: Anyone knows about Shotkin Zhang & Associates - NY?
I have thought about posting here for a long time, and I did not do it for fear of retaliation. I have seen first-handedly how they use lawsuit as a weapon to threaten/harass clients and former employees. But I finally decided to post. I have seriously thought about reporting but I have no physical evidence. I have worked there for a short while, was in a position to observe their operation closely but quit right after I realized what they were. Many staff comes and goes for the same reason.
I know people joke about them in this forum, and I can personally confirm all the crazy stuff that has been said here: ban on cellphone, bow to Asian partners, ban on talking to coworkers, folding chair, etc. But this is much more serious than that. The firm is actively ruining people's lives by giving out fraudulent legal advice. NONE of the people who are making decision on your case has any kind of legal education. They do whatever they can find on Google and ask the lawyers to sign it.
They take many types of cases, the most diabolical thing to see is when they take criminal cases. For civil cases, most of the time, the worst you could do is losing attorney fees. I have seen clients lose their freedom AND money entrusting them with their cases. They literally has NO idea what they are doing. I saw parents and spouses come crying and asking for legal assistance of their incarcerated loved ones, and got exploited.
The attorneys there, either realize the nature of the operation and fled after a month, or stay because they have no choice. Shotkin, as you all know, has been suspended. He used to be the main guy to sign things. He is like 95 and can barely make out complete sentences without choking on his own spit, but for whatever reasons, he stayed as long as he could, and did whatever the Chinese boss told him to do. He gets paid like 100 bucks a day. All the attorneys gets paid 100 bucks a day.
About two/three American attorneys there were in on this whole thing. Helping them intimidate clients etc. There is one who suffers from alcoholism, drinking in the office, showing up at court drunk. Another one is smart, he washes his hand on anything fishy on paper, but uses his presence to threaten clients.
Another problem with reporting is that, there is this one Asian guy in charge, and I can't find his name in any of the leases or cases involving the firm. He uses his wife, his close associates' names for everything. His wife works at the firm. Two young Asian female associates, neither of whom are lawyers, makes most decision about how a case should proceeds. The two of them uses to live with him, and he just bought each of them a townhouse in Manhattan (I did not personally knew about this, I heard it from a colleague who still works there after I left.)
They have generated massive wealth by defrauding their clients. Most of their clients are first-gen immigrants who has little resources in the country. It breaks my heart every time I think about them.
I really hope there is something we could do about this.

Thats not "Zhang" from Shotkins & Zhang. I actually worked as an intern here back in the day. Their main office is in Houston. Wasn't a bad place to work at, and certainty better than big law.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:31 pmhttps://www.hooyou.com/zbg_team/attorney-jzhang.html

Ah yes, one of my favorite posts on TLS makes a resurgence again. This one and the doc review one are pure gold.
