Which isn't to say I think you're an alcoholic just for drinking scotch, but is to say, I suspect people in the office are going to see a difference between a guy sipping a glass of wine at his desk versus a paper cup of scotch. Not everyone thinks the latter is a healthy component to the workday anymore.

Who tf works in Biglaw without A/C? We're talking about scotch in the office, and other forms of office drinking.mvp99 wrote:I wouldn't do that where I live at least during the summer and without A/C... it's too hot.WinSome wrote:You misunderstand me. Unrelated, but a bar near my office offers a little dropper thingy (idk what they're called, but they look like tiny turkey basters) and a tiny beaker of water with any scotch over about $20 if you order it neat so you can measure the size of the "splash" of water. Kinda cool, but I can't tell a difference yet. The few times I've tried it I just do 3 drops to look like I know what I'm doing and I like consistency.

I don't think that's what the anon meant. But even if they did, the post is still quite silly.A. Nony Mouse wrote:I assumed they meant at the office, not ever.rpupkin wrote:I hope you got that, kids. The former, okay; the latter, you're developing a problem, even if you're not a full-blown alcoholic yet. Relying on alcohol as a method to reduce stress is a sign of a budding addiction.

Law, where people will judge you for having a drink of whisky more than twice a week, and where people will judge you for putting ice in your scotch. Seriously, calm down people. Unless you are in a room with self-unaware pretentious dicks, ice is fine. Drinking is fine. Take care of yourself and be happy.

Perhaps you are unaware that wine and beer contain the same substance as hard liquor. I know plenty of alcoholics who prefer beer, and at least two who almost exclusively drink wine.Anonymous User wrote:As for the alcoholism debate, I see a difference between a bottle of beer/a glass of wine every couple weeks or so because someone brought it in for you to try and hey, it's been awhile since you've tried a new pinot noir, and hard liquor more than once a week because work is super stressful and whisky helps take the edge off the week. What problem are you developing? Being a lawyer?
Whiskey twice a week is a problem? Lol man. You are in for a rude awakening when you meeting grown-ups in the professional world.

TIL I'm a recovering alcoholic because I went from drinking more than one drink a week to none while bar studying.

I'm a recovering alcoholic because I had a drink two weeks ago...and I shamefully felt a little less stressed after doing so. FML.
Lol.

I try my best to only drink hard liquor bc I care about my health. Beer only when I'm out, professional events, or partying usually. Ordinary nights is something hard on the rocks and shots of no sugar hard alcohol for pregaming going out. Few glasses of wine a few nights a week. When working late I'll stick to just a few glasses of whiskey or rum on the rocks or possibly a few glasses of franziaAnonymous User wrote:Perhaps you are unaware that wine and beer contain the same substance as hard liquor. It's all about how you approach it I still have a great body so I don't have a problem but if work ever keeps me out of the gym or impacts my diet too much I might need to think about cutting back

Anon is absolutely right that drinking to reduce stress is a huge red flag for problem drinking. But fuck it, it's amazing.
also lol to the people who think its not okay because of lawyers tendency for alcoholism. That's the whole reason it's fine.

I like the feel of swishing wine in teh glass. But I appreciate the effort to self medication.MarkinKansasCity wrote:Any thoughts on wearing a camelbak full of cockwine around the office?Desert Fox wrote:Anon is absolutely right that drinking to reduce stress is a huge red flag for problem drinking. Just pour the alcohol into a Starbucks cup.

I usually use the Starbucks cups as spitters for dipping. It might look suspicious if I'm suddenly drinking from a Starbucks cup.Anonymous User wrote:Just pour the alcohol into a Starbucks cup.
