Previous point proven.
You got me there, I have no response to this. Best I can say is that I only just recently invested in my first linen suit, so luckily it wasn't a prerequisite during my SA.
PeanutsNJam wrote:Can we talk suit brands? Is everybody sticking with Brooks Brothers/Suit Supply/J Crew level suits or is anybody really blowing their SA money on 1-3k suits? (custom suit, designer brand, etc.)
The only suit you'll wear is the one you wear on the first day when you show up in a suit despite repeatedly being told that the office is business casual because you're afraid it's a trap and no suit first day=no offer. It's the same reason you'll buy Park Aves.

My Cole Haans got me through fine this summer and are still in fine shape to last a while when I begin working at the firm this summer. And, IIRC, none of the guys in my SA class had AE's.
Outed as living in a fly-over secondary
But seriously, I would hope that no one actually thinks they
need AE's to get offered...

I have a story for you two CRAVEN ANON COWARDS. This is the story: I was a SA in a flyover secondary market this past summer. Don't want to say the market because I'm not anon (it was Houston though). One day I was walking to lunch with 3 other male SAs and 2 associates. All 5 of them were wearing walnut Strands. I was the only one in the group not wearing walnut Strands! I don't want to say what I was wearing because I'm not anon (they were chili Carlyles though).
That is a 100% true story. No AEs=no offer is a saying for a reason. Because it's true (not really though).
I imagine it took some real courage to post this, so thank you for sharing. I don't know if I've heard of a more cringeworthy walk of shame story.
I got some no-name shoes at Nordstrom Rack that look pretty dope, one day I wore them and a first year said "Dude, those are pretty sweet, are they AE's?" I thought that was #winning myself
Real talk though: I don't even own Park Aves or Strands (just a Carlyle and a McAllister) and I somehow managed to snag an offer
