As far as I know that's just how Harvard rolls

Might be important to keep in mind that some of the people with CBs specified that they were upcoming (a week or two out).

In other words, take this info in this thread (and otherwise) with a big, hypertension-inducing grain of salt.
why would people bullshit anonymously on a non-school specific thread? thats stupid.
Unless that anon is bullshitting anonymously!

One of my callbacks still hasn't been scheduled and I'm only free for the summer one more week before flying back to school.

Two weeks ago the recruiting person told me not to bid on their firm but that she had to be out of the office unexpectedly and would be in touch last week. She never got back to me so, I sent a follow up email last Friday, with no response yet. My CSO says that the hiring partner had mentioned me by name before so I am definitely on the radar and to let it rest until next week, but that seems awfully tight to me in terms of scheduling. Should I go ahead and call the firm today or just chill the fuck out about it?

Because they knew at least a few people from their school (or maybe someone in particular) would probably look at this thread.

We exposed someone who did that last year. Several times, they claimed to get an offer from a particular office when in fact, that office ultimately didn't extend offers to anyone here. Embarrassing.

I've also heard past grads say this happens occasionally as well.

A guy I worked with this summer (at a public interest org) offered out of nowhere to recommend me to his brother, who is the managing partner of a mid law firm in a small-ish market--think Raleigh, Charlotte, Nashville. This firm has maybe a dozen offices and around 500 attorneys across the US

We're supposed to meet next week for dinner--me, the guy I worked with, and the managing partner. I'm obviously going to approach it as an interview, though it seems like a glorified screener. Any advice besides not being a weirdo?

just be regular, don't try to sell yourself unless he asks you specific questions. you are probably a pretty cool person if your coworker was willing to go out of his way to make the introduction and set this up. just have a good time and act like an adult and you're probably golden

(i am a rising 2L though)

Lol "around 500 lawyers" is not midlaw.

So I'm currently in the city that I'm targeting and one of the firms to which I applied told me they would contact me when they were going to set up interviews, but to keep in touch in the meantime. I'm only in this city for another week--is it acceptable to follow up with recruiting, let them know I'm not here much longer, and to reiterate an interest in an interview while I'm still around?

Read up on meal etiquette if you need a refresher. Beyond that, do some research on the firm...and don't be a weirdo.

I can confirm this. One of my best friends received an offer from their DC office earlier this month.

Don't lose hope! I had a callback last wednesday and still waiting - if you haven't gotten a rejection yet then you're still in the running (I hope)

Fwiw I interviewed with a firm on a Tuesday and didn't receive an offer until the following Friday. Firms just aren't in an rush at this stage.

Thanks for the words of hope! I feel as though it went well, but I interviewed both lit and corporate (although I think I had a good reason for doing so - too long to explain here) so I'm paranoid they'll look at me as flaky. Long story short I used my summer experience to explain why I started to shift my area of focus and parlayed that into why I like their free-market system blah blah blah

It just sucks because now I can't help but think of all the things I could've done better. Like I think I knocked it out of the park with one partner but it's hard to say with the other.

I've only had one callback to go off, but I think what you're feeling is pretty universal. When you're meeting 4 attorneys + some at lunch with separate interviews it's likely that you're going to have some interviewers that you click with and some not so much. The most you can do is try your best to not give those attorneys that you don't click with, a reason to ding you.

Our tendency is always going to be to think of all the things we could have done better, but just like exam season, it's best to just stop thinking about what's done and look towards what we can do to improve on the next opportunity.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
