School Range: T14
Market(s): NY/CA/DC
Approximate class rank: Top quarter
Law review/secondary journal: Secondary journal
Work experience: Finance work experience; also worked in a widely-respected legal position (almost every interviewer seemed genuinely interested)
IP background: No
Anything else that might have an impact? Strong ties to NY/CA markets; probably didn't matter but I received lots of resume compliments, including from my WLRK interviewer. I don't use the typical formatting suggested by law schools, i.e., Times New Roman and dull, but used the formatting that was successful during my job search in the finance. (Isn't the whole point to stand out from the thousands of other law students they interview?)
Screening Interviews: 32
Callbacks received: 26 (+1 MBB Consulting)
Callbacks accepted: 8 (scheduled my top choices first and cancelled the rest after receiving offers)
Offers w/vault ranges: 5 offers from V5 to V50 (lower vault-ranked firms were litigation powerhouses)
How many firms just didn't get back with you with a rejection/callback? Did not keep track
Thank-you notes sent: No

School Range: Top 5 (YHSCC)
Market(s): Chicago, Charlotte, D.C.
Approximate class rank: Top Third to top Quarter
Law review/secondary journal: No
Work experience: Strong (Finance)
IP background: No
Anything else that might have an impact? Strong interview skills
Screening Interviews: Several non-OCI interviews (gained from calling and e-mailing alumni from Law school and elite undergrad).
Callbacks received: 9
Callbacks accepted: 7
Offers w/vault ranges: 2 V50 offers (1 accepted); 2 V100 offers
How many firms just didn't get back with you with a rejection/callback? Just one, smaller regional firm.
Thank-you notes sent: Any of the firms I did a callback with + a couple more that I cancelled on.

Further note: I demonstrated interest in a somewhat specific practice area (capital markets / finance and banking) that fit with my undergrad study and work after college which I think helped ALOT.

Self-selection
One possible explanation but I do think outlook is better this year.

I know our school did exceptionally well this year at least

My school did NOT do exceptionally well. Actually one of its worst placement years.

School Range: Nova/Drexel/RU-C
Market(s): Philly/NJ/DE
Approximate class rank: top 10-15%
Law review/secondary journal: secondary
Work experience: nothing relevant, just a few years in the service industry
IP background: no
Anything else that might have an impact? Absolutely no ties to Philly/NJ/DE other than attending law school here. I got hammered on this during every interview and know it negatively impacted my cycle. On the positive side, I received a dozen awards in college mock trial/debate, and it also came up during every interview, so probably a marginal boost.
Screening Interviews: 14
Callbacks received: 5 (1 V50, 1 V100, 1 midlaw, 2 smallish firms)
Callbacks accepted: 4; cancelled the midlaw CB b/c an offer was going to expire and they wouldn't move it up
Offers w/vault ranges: 0 vault range, two offers from the smallish firms (30-60 attys)
How many firms just didn't get back with you with a rejection/callback? most, probably 6 or 7
Thank-you notes sent: no

Best year for BigLaw hiring since 2006 at my t14. Very very few people left without big law that wanted it

You will always get the kids that struck out spamming this boards saying how bad the job market is. If anything id say the amount of negativity is more self selection than the prevalence of positive outcomes.

It's always interesting to see people post their results, but given that we have fewer than 75 posts reporting outcomes here, I don't get how anyone can remotely fool themselves into thinking this thread tells us anything about general outcomes.

I'm the poster you quoted. I'm one of the few who did get placed in Biglaw. It wasn't self-selection negativity. I was adding that despite my own fortuitous outcome, the overall placement was BAD.

Posting anon because I don't go to a T14 and there weren't many who went to biglaw from my school so I would likely be outted. School in non-NYC major market. School didn't do great.

How can anyone even really *know* how well OCI went at their respective T14s without hard data being released from CSO? Anecdata is likely to suffer from self-selection bias too as I'm sure people who don't have offers don't BROADCAST it as those with 5 V5 offers do.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
