Any word on "usual suspects"? I've heard that Sullivan & Worcester, Riemer & Braunstein and Nelson Mullins are likely to no-offer at least one SA each year.

Somewhat related: How was the summer at the Boston office of Bingmorg McLewis? (Didn't both the BMc and MLB offices hire SAs before the quasi-merger?)
Yeah, haven't heard about firms listed above, but yes, they are more likely to no offer one or two if they feel it necessary. You should also add Nutter and Brown Rudnick to that list as well though.

I think Morgan Lewis was 100%, but not positive. Summers were told at the start that there would be spots for them.

If one were interested in litigation, and cared more about getting great training and experience, and long-term fulfillment more than prestige and "exit options," which firm would people recommend the most in Boston? Caveat: not interested in satellite office of national firm. So choice is really between big 3 and firms like Goulston, Mintz, Nutter, etc.

Not that I have this choice at all. Just wondering how people would approach the choice between huge boston-centered firm and smaller boston firms if faced with a choice.

Thank you!

Boston is pretty corporate focused in general, but Wilmer is definitely the way to go for lit, in my opinion. Goodwin and Ropes are solid, but their strengths are definitely corporate. Mintz is a really great firm generally and people seem to be happy there, but they're more midmarket for the most part. Goulston focuses more on real estate. foley hoag and K&L have ok general lit practices where people seem pretty content.

So to answer you question, if you really don't care about prestige, etc., I'd go for Mintz or Foaly Hoag. Caveat: hours aren't going to be ideal at any of these places, but from what I hear, these two firms are as close to work life balance as you'll get.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

All things being equal, Wilmer is the best litigation shop in town. If you take prestige out of the equation and add a little weight to the elusive 'work-life balance' metric, then I'd say Mintz is your best bet and foley hoag a not-too-close-but-not-too-distant second.

One thing that tips the scales in Mintz's favor -- in my mind, at least -- is its pro bono program. They have a dedicated pro bono partner and work on a wide array of interesting, important, complex matters.

Taking Mintz or foley hoag over Shearman or Willkie in NYC is defensible, right?

I'm strictly focused on Corporate. If I was in Boston (and especially at Foley) I'd like to do Startup/Emerging Company/VC work, and if I wound up in NYC I'd like to do PE work. I'd probably like to be in Boston long term, but also wouldn't mind leaving a few other non-NYC cities open (which i know is improbable from Mintz or Foley).

Also had several CBs from Boston firms about one week ago, but have yet to hear anything back. Has anyone heard anything?

I had a Dechert cb for Financial Services last week. Still no word. Assuming this is a no, but decided I didn't want it anyway.

The group did mention that they were looking to add 4-5 and already had 2-3 offers out.

For all those waiting, don't lose hope. I had 2 offers from firms last week that I had done callbacks with 4 weeks prior and another offer from a firm that I had done a callback with 2 weeks prior. Boston just seems to move slower. I had pretty much given up hope when I got the news.

My friend got a Dechert RE Transactional job in Boston on 9/17. And said yes. So that's one spot taken. GL to the rest!

Thanks. I am not accepting. I want Corporate, so the practice group was wrong, but it was hard to say no when it came down to it. Hopefully I'll be able to leverage a few years of NYC practice into some interest to lateral.

Anyone know if Ropes/Goodwin/Wilmer hire 3L's at all for corporate (specifically startup/VC/PE for Goodwin/Wilmer)?
