just out of curiosity, what's everyone bringing with them for day 1? i know that i'm suppose to bring my license/social security card/passport for HR purposes, but other than that (and the boat shoes) i'm not exactly sure what to bring.

All those items plus a pen, a small memo book, and some breath mints. Purposefully leaving my bag, water bottle, toothbrush, chargers, etc. that I normally bring everywhere at home.

I'm bringing my water bottle + deoderant + note book + phone charger + empty laptop bag (will leave in car unless is useful). I'm going to a sort-of reduced facetime firm, and on the very, very off chance that they expect us to bring a laptops home or something I don't want to be the idiot walking around with a laptop in my hand. Or the weird summer who came back from the half-mile walk to starbucks smelling like gym.

I feel like it's better to be prepared so I'm bringing laptop, backup laptop, floss, teeth whitening strips, three suits (+bathing suit), birth certificate, sleeping bag, and my own standing desk.

I love how fashion-related SA nervousness is.

Anyone else planning on taking like 30+ allowances on their w4? I expect to have almost 0 tax liability from the SA (b/c of credits). But don't want to draw funny looks or create extra work for HR if they have to do deal with a special IRS inquiry or anything...

The IRS calculator told me to take 20, I think, so I'm planning to do that if they'll let me.

I know it's stupid, but my plan is to take NONE, be shocked and surprised when I get my tax return, and use aalllll of the money that comes back through tax return for my bar trip. That way, I can't overspend and have no money for my bar trip.POTUS2044 wrote:Anyone else planning on taking like 30+ allowances on their w4? All this seems reasonable except standing desk. Insist the firm provide you that and if they ask why just lift up your shirt and show them your abs.jacksonmead wrote:I feel like it's better to be prepared so I'm bringing laptop, backup laptop, floss, teeth whitening strips, three suits (+bathing suit), birth certificate, sleeping bag, and my own standing desk.

I can't game the allowances this summer because of a (probably not very) unique circumstance so I'm going to get a sick refund come spring.

Something something compounding interest
I know it's not a big deal but it just irks me, even if it's only a few bucks.

Yeah I'm with you. It's just nice for a lot of people to get money in large chunks so I understand the hesitation. It's also weird to go through the withholding worksheet, come up with 1, then enter "18" for number of withholdings. But that's what I'll be doing.Danger Zone wrote:Something something compounding interest

I'm surprised no one has brought this up, but some firms prepare your forms in a way that your salary is not pro-rated over the course of the year, aka you will get taxed like you are making 30K instead of 160KPOTUS2044 wrote:Anyone else planning on taking like 30+ allowances on their w4? The HR people looked at me like I had two heads when I put '18' allowances or whatever last year and told me that it's normal to have like 2 or 3
