Of course they know who you are. You just may not have a chatty/conversational kind of relationship with them, or don't want to bother them over the holidays. That doesn't mean they were a bad choice as a reference.

One of my references informed me that they were contacted, and that January 9, 2014, is some sort of deadline.

To the person worried about their reference not being reached-- last year they reached out to candidates if the reference couldn't be reached.
To our knowledge, still no offers right? Maybe the jan 9 deadline is for contacting references?

Still no offers as far as I can tell. I'm uncertain as to whether OCIJ asked for responses before Jan 9, or if offers were going to be extended on that date, provided all references had responded before then.Anonymous User wrote:To the person worried about their reference not being reached-- last year they reached out to candidates if the reference couldn't be reached.

Here's something I didn't think would happen. I got a fall grade back before hearing about this EOIR.

Has anyone heard from BIA? Are finalists in the same holding pattern as EOIR with reference checks, etc. or does anyone know of any offers from EOIR-BIA? Thank you.

I've gotten some clarification: OCIJ asked references to respond by Jan. 9, and that responses beyond that date would delay the new-hire's start date.Anonymous User wrote:Still no offers as far as I can tell. Re: DOJ Honors 2014 EOIR-OCIJ Finalists
Just found out that one of my references was contacted by email on December 30th. Not much detail because my reference is still on vacation, but had told the paralegal in the office (who I reached by phone) to remind her to contact that person when she gets back in town.

With 210 references to contact in the first round and even more than that for the second round I think next week is the real contacts week.Anonymous User wrote:Now I feel like I am the only one who has not heard from their references..

I'm on the edge of my seat - Deanna just posted that offers are rolling out. Lets hope it's a steady flow as opposed to a slow trickle. Please post the good news when you hear! I suggest the idea of putting something like Offer # 1 - Western Region (if you want to).

Seeing as though I have not heard anything from my references, I assume that I am an alternate. bummer.

Re: DOJ Honors 2014 EOIR-OCIJ Finalists
Looking at last year's thread it seems like it took a while for references to get checked (even for apparent first rounders) and some alternates got offers as late as February. Keep your spirits up - nothing's set in stone yet. In fact, despite what Denna posted - I've only seen one offer on this year's threads and that was a funnel offer.Anonymous User wrote:Me too.Anonymous User wrote:SameAnonymous User wrote:Seeing as though I have not heard anything from my references, I assume that I am an alternate. bummer.

Good news for an alternate - I rec'd an offer today but unlikely to accept it as it was not my first choice location

Would you mind sharing what region your offer was from? I'm still waiting to hear from references but am a little interested in knowing what region is giving out offers. Thanks!

Has anyone who mentioned getting reference checked received an offer yet?

Re: DOJ Honors 2014 EOIR-OCIJ Finalists
It's been two days since Deanna's post that EOIR is rolling out offers and this Board has been pretty quiet. I take it that those who have gotten the good news are probably not trying to rub it in other people's faces. But, I'm pretty curious as to which regions have made offers. My references were contacted on 12/30 - and at least two of them have confirmed that they replied to the checker. The third reference hasn't responded to me - so I assume he probably has not responded to EOIR. In any event - I haven't received an offer. Does anyone have any insight?

Re: DOJ Honors 2014 EOIR-OCIJ Finalists
I would not worry, I am in the same boat. My references were contacted before New Years and I still have not received an offer. It seems last year those whose references were contacted got offers eventually and those whose references were not contacted did not get offers. After the deadline passes tomorrow, I think we will see more offers extended.
