Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
No one is saying that firms aren't working. The question is the number of associates they need. No question that there are many fewer jobs than 3 years ago and those jobs aren't coming back. You can't say with any certainty that the upper T 14 is fine. No evidence that this is the case.rad lulz wrote:I hate it when people talk ab this "all of my friends" crapobjecion wrote:When my upper T-14 class entered LS all we heard were horror stories. Just the fact that there were unemployed 3Ls wandering the halls was scaring the crap out of everyone. Flash forward to now, everyone I know had multiple suitors and landed nicely on their feet. A few were disappointed because their boutique pays slightly under top dollar or they did not get transferred to a particular satellite. This is a far better outcome than anyone could have imagined three years ago. If this discussion regards the upper T-14 I find it hard to imagine that many are in dire straits.
I was by the office the other day and things were just as hectic as during my SA stint. Come September I expect it will be busy.
(Need to add… three years ago not only were jobs disappearing, the market was flooded by experienced attorneys that had been terminated. It was difficult to stay enthusiastic.)
People who have jobs are more likely to talk ab jobs
I work at a law firm and I am hectic but I have literally no idea whether we have shit on the horizon (aka will I be busy 2 months from now)
They usually don't share that shit w associates and you sure as shit can't see whether the firm is busy just by showing up at the office for a day
And even if the associates weren't busy, do you really think they'd broadcast that to you?
Things were much worse when classes were slashed, deferred and massive layoffs happened. That doesn't mean things are fine. Biglaw is struggling with this new model.

I have no idea what happened to those attorneys labeled as the lost generation. I think that description was a little too strong, but maybe not considering the bleak situation that existed three years ago.Anonymous User wrote:What happen to these experienced attorneys now? Did they all find lateral opportunities or move onto other non-legal areas?

@T7-T10, transferred in (so I had high grades 1L), nothing yet.

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
Seems to me that biglaw hiring is way more consolidated in the T6 than ever before.
Summering at a V5 this summer.
YHS: 35% of summer class.
CLS + NYU = 40% of summer class.
In a pretty big class, only a couple people each from V, D, M, NW, etc. Penn does seem to do better than it's USNWR ranking.

T6 is the new T14 now? TLS' new model is gonna be T6 or bust.Anonymous User wrote:Seems to me that biglaw hiring is way more consolidated in the T6 than ever before.

Sounds like you better brush up on your reasoning before you end up looking like a moron this summer.Anonymous User wrote:Seems to me that biglaw hiring is way more consolidated in the T6 than ever before.

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
V5 has always been T6-heavy, but it's moving further down the rankings. even as low as V8 you're really seeing almost entirely HYSCCN (and P, probably because of NY bias). but after that it drops off pretty quick and all T14 schools are reasonably represented.Anonymous User wrote:Seems to me that biglaw hiring is way more consolidated in the T6 than ever before.

OP from above. Great. Cool. Thanks for the insightful comment, really stellar elucidation of your argument. Cool.zweitbester wrote: Sounds like you better brush up on your reasoning before you end up looking like a moron this summer.

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
Between 2L & 3L there has to be 6,000 T10ers. According to this thread not many are running into difficulty. Not sure to what degree we have turned the corner in the past three years but I suspect there has been a marked improvement.
Unfortunately. I know a couple tier1 3Ls across town who are still fighting the fight.

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
This thread hasn't said anything at all like that. Don't rely on anecdotal data. Look at the LST reports. I know 0Ls are desperate to believe that going to a T14 means they will have a job in biglaw. Those days are long gone.objecion wrote:Between 2L & 3L there has to be 6,000 T10ers. According to this thread not many are running into difficulty. At P, not even close to pre-disaster levels. Lots of 2ls with nothing lined up.

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
I suppose P is a good gauge for the upper T14. LST sez 3% underemployed. So unless the LST P data is off (or the top 3 should be HYP), I doubt if 3% underemployed is startling even during the best of years..Anonymous User wrote:At P, not even close to pre-disaster levels. Penn 2012
Hard to see much difference. Maybe Penn is a school where lots of people line up good jobs after striking out at OCI, but I doubt it.

MVP here. Between top third and top quarter. Nothing. I'm not the only one.

You realize that pre-LST numbers are worthless.Tiago Splitter wrote:Penn 2005objecion wrote:I suppose P is a good gauge for the upper T14. LST sez 3% underemployed. NYstate at it again. The 2012 numbers, if anything, are stronger than the 2005 numbers I linked to.NYstate wrote:You realize that pre-LST numbers are worthless.Tiago Splitter wrote:Penn 2005objecion wrote:I suppose P is a good gauge for the upper T14. How can you purport to contrast with "pre-disaster levels" while disclaiming an ability to talk about the numbers? How do you know this isn't how it shakes out every year?
A better title for this thread would be "PSA: Generalization from my employment status (or telling you about someone I know)."

I think it would be useful if, when stating whether or not you are employed, you also include information regarding KJD/WE as well as the regions you bid on: split DC & NY, Only NY, Only CA, ect...

Re: How many 2Ls at a t10 are still jobless?
I know a few folks at T6s who are still looking (at least 1 has below median grades, but was a URM). Most targeted NYC.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
