I think one good idea would be to start reaching out to smaller and mid-sized firms in your preferred market now, finding out which ones are going to have summer classes and when they will be hiring, and compile that list now. A lot of them don't start looking for a months. Then in the meantime, start reaching out to alumni in these firms, and build those relationships now so that you're on their radar when they start interviewing candidates. I think these smaller, reputable shops can be a good way to go, especially for an aspiring litigator.
At least, that was one attorney's advice, which I am now posting here for those still looking.

Well either someone reneged or this confirms that firms lie-- About a month ago, Jenner LA told me they filled their class. I'll go with the lying.Anonymous User wrote:SLS has listings for:

they were probably lying, especially if it was a form letter rejection, but it could also be that at that time they had extended as many offers as they felt would allow them to fill the class and had an unexpectedly low yield.Anonymous User wrote:Well either someone reneged or this confirms that firms lie-- About a month ago, Jenner LA told me they filled their class. Also may be a particular department, like IP, is still looking for someone while the rest of the firm is filled. That seems to be somewhat a trend ITT.Anonymous User wrote:they were probably lying, especially if it was a form letter rejection, but it could also be that at that time they had extended as many offers as they felt would allow them to fill the class and had an unexpectedly low yield.Anonymous User wrote:Well either someone reneged or this confirms that firms lie-- About a month ago, Jenner LA told me they filled their class. I think my best course of action is to take a leave of absence and take classes to become patent bar eligible. Start one year later with a near guaranteed job.

No. Unless you are going back to get an electrical engineering degree, taking some biology or chemistry classes are not = guaranteed job. There are lots of ways to be "patent bar eligible." Eligible does not equal desirable.Anonymous User wrote:I think my best course of action is to take a leave of absence and take classes to become patent bar eligible. Take a look at any patent firm website, and you'll notice that most of the people with bio/chem backgrounds are M.S. and above.

Can I get an example of one of these midsize firms? Because all of the firms between 20-60 attorneys I've contacted tend to more or less follow the biglaw hiring schedule.
