Re: UChicago 2011 OCI Discussion and Results
Happy with my results:
I was pretty strategic and it paid off.
I got 33 bids out of 53.
Missed out on Cooley at 6, Jones Day at 16, Winston at 17, Davis Polk at 21, and Paul Weiss at 22, Foley at 24.
I got almost half of my last 25 (I wanted some of them higher, but figured they'd still be around), including O'Melveny at 40 and Perkins Coie at 44, and Allen & Overy after 50.
Irell, Wachtell, and Munger all still have bids open (but not Cravath??)

I think its because I was just pretty strategic about bid placement. I didn't bid any grade selective firms before 30. I also made sure the bid the multi-office interviews with a NY or Chicago office and other niche areas really high, and bid firms in smaller markets with only that office coming lower because I didn't think they'd fill up.Anonymous User wrote:+1Anonymous User wrote:Props

It might also be because I am more-corporate focused and it seems like a lot of people are more litigation-focused or indifferent.

Re: UChicago 2011 OCI Discussion and Results
Bid straight NYC and received 20 interviews. Got firms #1-11, and 16 interviews overall out of my top 20. Missed out on Latham at 12, Sidley at 15, MoFo at 16, and Dewey & LeBoeuf at 18. Outside of the top 20 I got Mayer Brown at 21, Mintz Levin at 28, King & Spalding at 32, and Wachtell at 42 (ha). Got all of the firms I really wanted so I'm happy enough.
Anyone know how much movement there is after the interview schedules are out? As in, is there any chance that an employer with zero remaining interview slots will have one open up?

If the firm asks for a cover letter, we just bring those with us... correct? Or do we submit ahead of time?

Very interesting approach. 33 firms is amazing. I wanted the big NYC firms and was concerned about missing them, so I bid them pretty high and ended up with ~20Anonymous User wrote:I think its because I was just pretty strategic about bid placement. I asked this to career services and they said just bring the cover letter/writing sample/transcript to the interview. But because some of the firms asked us to actually "submit" other documents aside from our resume, I am a little concerned.Anonymous User wrote:If the firm asks for a cover letter, we just bring those with us... correct? Also, looking at the interview schedules, it looks like some firms are interviewing multiple people at once. Does this mean the firm is going to have multiple interviewers, or does it mean that we will be interviewed together with multiple students?

Does anyone know which regions are fast and slow on CBs? Would markets like Seattle, Houston, or Orange County be slower than LA, NYC, Chicago?

It is only kind-of OCI, but McKinsey gave their second-round call backs out via email twenty minutes ago.

Don't think anyone is making offers without a callback first.Anonymous User wrote:Any news re: callbacks/rejections/offers on the spot?

And, damn, it would be cold to reject someone at a screening interview.

I am beat. Interviewed with some really entertaining and interesting people today. OCI wasn't so bad-- at least on day one. Interviews were a lot easier when the interviewer was excited to see you-- I think one of the worst slots is probably the pre-lunch slot because you are standing in between the interviewer and their lunch.
