I have a 3.22 and am interested in New York and Atlanta with no ties to either one. Should I scrap Atlanta completely and bid solely on New York or is Atlanta still a possibility? What about other secondary southern markets like Dallas or Charlotte with no ties? Thanks in advance for any insight.

similar situation except about right at median and my home market is Chi, about how many (% wise) should i throw to NYC and should my bids just be the biggest class sizes and just scattered between firms below the V25 or so?

There's another URM who posted their grades and asked for their chances on the previous page. My question is less specific than that particular one and is based mostly on the question of reliability of the advice URM's can receive from asking questions here.

That's not meant to sound douchey in any sense. It's just the only URM I know who isn't rising to their second year and posts semi-regularly on the UVA threads is Konihoor and I don't see him around. I'm loathe to view OGI like law school applications where you could take chances and just shrug off losses. At least then, I knew or at least experienced the sensation of knowing how being a URM changed the game; here, I have no idea. Does it change anything at all? Would a median URM be foolish to bet on Boies? Would that be perfectly fine? Would a below median URM be fine picking McGuire Woods? Should they just try to focus on secondary markets? Or maybe the dynamics don't change at all and we should just focus on the same advice others are receiving? It's all up in the air.

About top 15% (3.56), 1-2 years of legal WE before school: interested in DC litigation, home market is in the Midwest (Chicago area) and I would be fine with returning to work there or nearby. Not really interested in NY.

How many bids out of 50 would I need to use on DC to make an offer reasonably likely? Does that leave me enough bids to target the Midwest with the remainder, instead of NY?

Any litigation firms out in Chicagoland or surrounding states with a good UVA connection?

Texas
Vegas
San Diego
Orange County
Denver
Phoenix
Atlanta

Significant ties all over the West (read: lived west of the Continental Divide, in multiple states, all but the first and last year of my life). No major ties to Texas, but I've researched things well enough to tell what I think is a pretty compelling story of why I'd like to move my family there permanently.

Any thoughts on strategy?

Can you put a junk e-mail address on here so I can e-mail you anonymously? I bid on most of those cities last year and I can tell you my experience with that. The bottom line is you're probably going to need to bid on at least one big city to fill up your bid sheet.

I think I am a good interviewer and can meet people and be personable right away. The only thing that is holding me back is the fact that I totally fucked up second semester. Does any one have advice for me/been through similar circumstances that came out ok?

Second Semester = 3B and a B-
First Semester = 3B+, 1B

Pretty much sucked it up big time, and instead of stepping it up a notch, I definitely took a few steps down second semester.

Does anyone have advice on how I should be networking now? I am pretty much just sending out emails to firms asking to meet people in practice areas I have interest, and I will be applying to those firms in mid july to organize interviews. Is there anything else I can do?

The best advice I have for people at median or below: in late June/early July, send targeted applications to firms in your home region, where you are working this summer, and in secondary markets of interest. I earned seven callback interviews doing that. Even if the firm is coming to OGI, expressing the early interest is always a good thing. Two firms put me on their OGI interview list ahead of time because I had contacted them early.

Bump. Anonymous OP here, I noticed that there are about 10 OCI firms in the Chicago area that I am interested in; if I use 10 bids for these and I devote about 40 bids to DC/VA firms, is that enough to make sure I get something without bidding NY?

Never, but I'm a rising 2L, too, so what do I know? My gut would be that it's tacky to put it down with firms that come to OGI, because they already have a fairly good idea of where you are (due to familiarity with the school), and putting it down seems...crass? With firms that don't come to OGI, I'd probably give it much more consideration. Some schools have a much wider GPA range than ours (**cough** NU), so putting down a class rank is a good way of letting an employer know how good we are relative to students from other schools.
