University of Connecticut School of Law Class of 2012

Post by chris888777 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:53 am

I finally decided on UCONN and could not be more happy with my decision. I'm from the area so if anyone has any questions about apts, west hartford, etc... let me know.

I am going to UCONN as well (will be sending my deposit in the mail today, REGISTERED MAIL, :D). I am trying to get some idea on good places to live in the West Hartford area. I want something quiet, but not too expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Anybody start looking for places to live? I was checking out craigslist yesterday, and this guy had posted a ridiculously nice-looking Victorian style house, 3br, for about $1700 a month. It was fully furnished and he said it was close to the law school. Unfortunately he needed to start renting it before August.

You guys order UConn schwag yet? :D

Yes...i ordered some husky gear a few days ago :D . I wouldn't worry too much about finding an apt this early. Theres a bunch of great places in the area so i'm sure you will find a great deal.

I wish! I really want some schwagage! Yay about this thread, it's about time!

I've been trying to get them to let me access the admitted student's site. Can anyone get on it yet? I want to look at housing.

Btw- If anyone would share a house with a husband/wife/newborn/golden retriever then speak up, I'd love to live in a house (not that I think anyone will want to live with a newborn, lol).

Major congrats to all! This is such an exciting time. I haven't purchased any gear yet, but I'm close by, so I'll try to go this weekend.

I'm still looking for at least some names of nice apartment complexes/buildings in the West Hartford area. Anyone have tips on where to start?

Hey,

I sent in my deposit to UConn law too! I am looking to assemble a bunch of recent grads (Class of 2007-2009) in a house, or a cluster of houses.

Right now, I am looking into a 6br house at 483 a month, only a mile away from campus.

If you are a member of the facebook group, I put up a post there too.

E-mail me at elonrubin@nyu.edu if you are interested!

I'm not so much nervous about the 6 pt. drop in the rankings as I am about the 69% employment rate after graduation. Its making me reconsider.

Hi All,
Congrats to everybody on getting in. I'm doing my best to ignore the rankings, but the 2010 report makes me a little nervous, too. Anyone wanna give me a pep talk? I think I need a little reassurance that everything's going to be okay...

Okay. Again...I'm trying hard to ignore the new rankings, but it's pretty difficult to pretend like I didn't notice the school I plan on going to went from T1 to T2 in last practically overnight. I was doing some research (because that's what I do when I get nervous), and I came across a WSJ article published in Aug of 2008 that pretty much predicted the slide to low 50's and they attributed this to the fact that the USNWR rankings would start taking into account GPAs and LSATs for incoming PT program students. This would make sense to me, accept that I thought they had decided they were going to rank the FT and PT programs separately. Anyone have any additional insight?

And seriously, if I'm being ridiculous about caring about these numbers so much, just tell me to shut the hell up and I will. I'm still pretty jazzed to be even going to law school, so I'm not sure why I'm obsessing about this so much.

it's a good school, beautiful campus, places well in Connecticut and decently in New England, etc. You are making too much of the shift.

Thanks. I think that's exactly what I needed to hear. Anyways, I'll probably be climbing up the walls excited after my wife and I get out there next month to meet with some of the folks at the school.

Congrats again to everybody and see you in August.

DeseoQueSea wrote:Rankings matter to me, also, but quality of education, class size, and actual learning matter more. Do well at UConn and it's my feeling that you'll fare better than having done mediocre work at a higher ranked school.

Regardless, we're in this forum so we're all going to UConn, so let's start getting psyched about it!
I completely agree with Deseo. It's a six point drop; a move of that size happens to many schools each year, it really changes nothing. I also am a little bummed to move out of the top fifty but this whole T1/T2 thing is really a construct of TLS and other online forums. It doesn't exist in the minds of hiring partners and other senior attorneys. I highly doubt UConn's reach is any different than it was two weeks ago.

It's a very good law school, a beautiful campus, it places well in an awesome part of the country (with chances at NYC and Boston if you do well), has a small student body, solid journals, and a respected faculty. Plus a sweet basketball team. ;)

Be excited, I know I am. :D

Just thought I'd post and whoop it up a bit with the UConn folks. It's been super quiet lately. We need some UConn love! :D Everyone still going? 2nd deposits are due this week.

Anyone moved/starting looking/found a place yet? I am just about to get into it, it seems like craigslist and the UConn housing list they sent out are probably the best ideas. Any other ideas?

Just about 3 months until school begins. I also noticed that someone on LSN wrote they had been released from the waitlist and that the class was full. I guess things are fully set. I am having an extremely difficult time staying focused at work, I'm ready to start school!

Ok enough rah rahing, but go Huskies!

Uconn just sent me a letter confirming the receipt of my 2nd deposit this weekend :) I know how you feel ugchicago, I cant focus at work anymore... keep looking at apartments in Hartford instead of getting work done. Seems like we may be a couple of weeks early still, most apartments I saw on craigslist are still looking for june/july move ins.

I really wish the list Uconn gives us had pictures... rather hard to look at an apartment seriously without seeing a pic.
