Hope you can get some $$! It didn't mention opening the dorms, but I would think they would if a few of us asked to see them. There are very few hotels in Malibu, but Santa Monica has a bunch and it's a short and very scenic drive. I recommend the Sheraton Delfina in SM. It's on Pico Blvd. with a view of the ocean. I'm not staying in a hotel. It's only a 2 hour drive so I'm making it a one day trip, banking on the Grapevine staying open.

Also, there is an express bus that goes from Santa Monica to Malibu (it looks like it stops close to campus - Malibu Canyon & Civic Center). I plan on staying in LA/Santa Monica and taking the bus to Pepperdine, hopefully that works out... anyone ever done this?

Thanks for the help guys. This will be my first trip to Cali so I have no idea what to expect out there. I considered renting a car from LAX, especially if I stay farther away from campus. Is this a terrible idea? Also, what is the Grapevine, Bako?

Renting from LAX seems like the best way to do it, not ideal, but I don't know what else you can do. Remind me where you are from? Enjoy your first trip to Cali! The Grapevine is one of 3 routes that connect southern Cali with the rest of the state. It winds through the mountains and it is by far the quickest, but during the winter is often closed by the CA dept. of transportation (caltrans) due to snow. Nobody in CA knows how to drive in snow and it especially shows there in the form of deadly accidents. If it snows there, chances are my 2 hour drive will either go to a 5-7 hour drive or to an overnight stay in a hotel.

I'm from Mississippi. So I've got a bit of a trip ahead of me. Hoping to bring a friend with me so I'm not wandering around LA solo...I don't see that turning out very well. We should all do a dinner/happy hour after the scheduled activities and meet our fellow Pepperdiners (?)

I think this is what I'll end up doing...my sister lives in L.A., but she needs her car, so I'll probably end up renting one. When are you flying in?

I'd be totally for meeting up afterward, depending on the time. Those pics were awesome! I visited last summer, but always nice to look again. Is anyone bringing a guest? I noticed there is a # of guests box on the email invite. Also, I know this was covered in another thread in the main forums, but what are you guys gonna wear?!

I think I'll be arriving late Thursday afternoon? Sometime between 4 and 7 ish. Haven't booked flights yet. Will have a layover in Dallas regardless. As for attire...I have no idea! I figure that we have already been accepted so our wardrobe can't hinder our law school experience too much can it? What was covered in the other forum. I guess business casual? Oh and also I am planning on bringing one guest. Do you think they will be able to attend everything with us? I dont want to leave my friend awkwardly at the hotel all day...though I guess she could take the car around.

I'm sure you can take a guest to the various events when you visit.

I think I'll be by myself. My sister was thinking about accompanying me, but she probably can't get off work.

I'm sure they will! That's been the case at other schools I've visited.

what are you guys gonna wear?!

I'll probably wear business casual...slacks and a nice top. Though I'd prefer to be in jeans and flip-flops.

I toured the school with a small group of applicants on Monday. There were a few of us (myself included) wearing business casual, and a few wearing jeans and a nice-ish shirt. There was one guy wearing shorts and flip-flops, and the tour guide actually singled him out and said he was perfectly dressed because shorts and flip-flops were basically the Pepperdine uniform. That being said, I would think you're best bet for being comfortable while blending in ok would be the jeans route. It seems to me from reading these boards that most ASWs end up being a nice mixture of business casual and jeans w/a decent shirt.

Me too! I wish I had housing set in stone. It's one of the things I'm most worried about. I think I'm gonna start looking in June, I've already been looking online, but I'm planning on regular trips down to look at places and hopefully have somewhere secured by mid July to move in early Aug.

Where is everyone planning on living? On campus? In Malibu/Calabasas/Santa Monica? I'm getting excited!!

I would recommend ya'll looking on Craigslist at some of the condo's and houses in the Malibu area.

They have some good places for pretty darn good prices, if you have roommates. Start asking around, facebook surfing and find a roommate.

Last time I looked on there there was like several gorgeous condos with beach views for like 1800 a month 3 bed 2 bad. split over 3 people is $600 a month. That's fantastic or even two people and an office would be 900 and that's not bad either.

Okay, I was accepted at Pepperdine, but didn't get any $$$. McGeorge (University of the Pacific) has treated me very well financially, however, and the cost of living would also be less.

Lots of you have said: NO WAY to sticker price for Pepperdine. However, Pepperdine *IS* in Malibu.

Thoughts?

I think I might have even exaggerated a bit, the more realistic price was probably more like 2300 for 3 bed 2 bath which is still like $770 a month, not bad at all (of course this doesn't include utilities, food, etc.)

But there are some great places that can be found on Craigslist, just dig for it. With the recession there's a lot of opportunities, especially if you're creative. You can even look at like the vacation rental places that rent out monthly. You might have to pay different prices based on peak periods but if you have roommates and are willing to fight for a good place, go for it. With roommates and creativity everything is much more affordable.

Go look at McGeorge's 2012 thread, compare to ours, and see which group you'd rather hang out with

Seriously though, sticker at Pepperdine is a lot and the cost of living is through the roof. I was willing to pay sticker before I got in, but it was one of my top choices. How do you feel about six-figure debt? If that makes you sick, I would go with McGeorge. If you can stomach the thought of that much debt, Pepperdine might be the place.
