I'm deciding between The Merchant of Venice (with Cohen & Sager) and Lawyerland (with William Fobarth). Maybe we'll be in the same section.YoungFella wrote:Daico - thanks a lot for the help. I am so excited about all of this. I feel much more up to speed now.
Also, I chose The Merchant of Venice as my book discussion group...anyone else do the same?

Forbath looks like a really interesting individual, but the topic (Lawyerland) looks less so. I've read enough about what being a lawyer is "really like." I'm more interested in reading a book that actually goes into a current, relevant discussion on the law.

Yeah. I like Fobarth. I don't like the idea of reading LAWYERLAND.Esc wrote:Forbath looks like a really interesting individual, but the topic (Lawyerland) looks less so. I chose going broke. I was thinking about doing Johnsons book just because he teaches tax which i know I'll be taking at some point, but I have a problem with professors who want you to buy their own book.
Not sure if this is a good section, havent really looked at the different ones. Figured there was no use in looking into things I cant control, but it will be interesting to see how well you predicted.Section 3

If there's a joke to it, I don't get it either.mpar wrote:I suppose I haven't been around long enough to get the humor above ^^?
That said, I hope I don't get Mullenix for CivPro, I've heard terrible things.

No big joke. I was bored, so I thought I'd make up a silly chart. I don't think Esc will like where I put him. But I didn't put myself in a "good" section either.Daico wrote:If there's a joke to it, I don't get it either.mpar wrote:I suppose I haven't been around long enough to get the humor above ^^?

I'm not a terribly big fan of where you put me either, but, honestly it's all chance. There's no way to tell which group we will get, and I probably shouldn't have as strong of a preference as I do... I really need to know now. I'd like to pick up my books for class, but I'd have to go Monday and there's really no chance I'll be able to do that anyway.OperaAttorney wrote:

Hey all!
I haven't been on this board in a really long time...but I'm really excited about starting school and meeting all of you at orientation.
I chose Picking Cotton because the true story that it revolves around is really compelling...I have already started reading it and I can't put it down! Also I think that the Actual Innocence clinic is really interesting, and I'd love to hear what Dowling has to say about the subject of actual innocence. Anyone else doing this one?

I'll be in on the 14th from NYC. Can't wait to be back in Texas.

Re: Texas Class of 2012
I just received the invitation to join the Board of Advocates organization. They appear to be the student org for people interested in advocacy, mock trial, moot court, etc.
Anyone have any opinions on if joining is worth it? I'm planning to focus more on clinics and journals, rather than moot court, so I'm kind of leaning against joining.
Countbiz? RatRatRat? What say you?

For those who know:
Do the shuttle drivers ever check/ask for a UT ID? I've been on it a few times w/my Dad and wife (non UT students) and we've never paid. When my wife boarded the other day and tried to pay, they essentially told her not to. Is this because they assume she's a student or is the shuttle just free for everyone?
P.S. Austin rules !!
