Re: NYU 2012
Is anybody on the listserv? I'm hesitant to sign up because I don't want to receive a bunch of random messages.
If anybody is on the listserv, what's it like?

which listserv? if you're talking about the one on the admitted students' site, I think nothing has been sent out on it since last admissions cycle.halfpancake wrote:Is anybody on the listserv? I'm hesitant to sign up because I don't want to receive a bunch of random messages.

I'm pretty sure halfpancake is talking about Coase's List, which is accessible through NYUHome.
There are probably about ten postings a day, but you can choose to receive a daily digest of them all.
I would say half of the postings are about housing, a quarter about books for sale, and the remaining quarter are about other things, like 'lost & found,' professor recommendations, and graduation tickets.
I've been on it for about a week, and while it hasn't been useful to me, it doesn't really hurt.

Any other international students started their visa application stuff? Does anyone know what the rough timeline for this is?

I think you fill this out online:tkj wrote:hey i was actually curious about this - did the school send you stuff? i was expecting the law school to send me the visa / sevis stuff and then i'd fill that out and send it in. i haven't gotten anything since my deposit on apr 16 (but I do have my net id). i emailed the office (at the law.moreinfo addy) but no response.sophie316 wrote:Any other international students started their visa application stuff? or are you downloading application forms directly (but then...you have no sponsor for your visa?)
http://www.nyu.edu/oiss/afcoe/
And they send you your SEVIS/ I-20 etc. I'm just not entirely sure how long it all takes

Re: NYU 2012
I just set up my NYU home account and have my ID all set. However, when I go to log into the computer store it asks for my NYU ID... i type in my ID which looks like xxx123 and it says that it is invalid... it doesn't ask for my password, just my ID. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Go to NYUHome, login, and go to 'Preferences' on the top. On the left will be your University ID, which is different from the NetID that you tried to use.Artvark1 wrote:I just set up my NYU home account and have my ID all set. I think it takes 24 hours or so until all of the password authenticated sites recognize the new IDs. I guess they're not all connected in real-time. And I don't think the prices are too great anyway.Artvark1 wrote:That doesn't work either

Does anyone know how and when we're supposed to apply for our Stafford loans? I think I saw something to the effect that they'll send us instructions about this in mid-June, but if I wrong I don't want to have missed some deadline I'm unaware of.

stafford loans!? net ID's!?! geez people, calm down! all in due course... (except for the int'l students with visa issues, which are genuine need-to-start-early concerns...)

If you are accepting a financial aid offer, they want your tax forms to verify the info you submitted.Sobriquet wrote:Tax forms????

I'm not sure where zanda sees a deadline of a week from now, but on this page, https://its.law.nyu.edu/admitted/jd/finaid/dates.cfm (might be password-protected) it says:
June 12th All recipients of institutional aid must submit federal income tax forms with applicable schedules and W-2s to the Law School’s Office of Student Financial Services. Awards are updated upon receipt of tax returns and tuition deposits.

my tax forms were due May 15, per the terms of my award on the financial aid part of the admitted students' website.

Re: NYU 2012
This is a question I put in another thread. I am going to NYU this fall and maybe one of you all knows the answer or can provide some insight.
I noticed for NYU housing at these two locations they have different rates for parts of the building that are adjacent to "louder" streets. If anyone lives there, I was wondering if they could weigh in if there is much of a difference if I were to get a room on the "loud" side of the street in Mercer or D'Agostino. Will I be able to sleep at night or study if I live on the loud side? Will living on a higher floor counteract the noise?

And another question: in these apartments, the higher-floor versions of the same room are more expensive. I've never lived in an apartment before. Could anyone who has tell me why this would be the case? Are they charging you more for a nicer view?

My letter says that as well. I wonder why it's different from the website.curiouser wrote:my tax forms were due May 15, per the terms of my award on the financial aid part of the admitted students' website.
