Re: Chicago Class of 2012
Um, Baird was rule-heavy, he was just secretive about it. If you knew what was good for you, you were eating out of the FRCP too. While worrying about Twombly.
The deal is: 1st quarter civ pro is trial mechanics, pleadings, motions to dismiss, etc.; your next quarter of civ pro is personal and subject matter jurisdiction, joinder & removal, state law in fed courts, etc. Which means you don't get to extra-famous cases like Pennoyer and Erie until near the end of your first year. I wouldn't call it intro con law material, however. Civ pro at every school deals with the due process issues in procedure. The "extras" we got to were mainly preclusion, class actions... anything else? Anyway, rising 2Ls at Chicago know basically nothing about constitutional law.

Anyone else planning on getting a Mac? Any rising 2Ls see any issues with Macs? Last year's computing memo recommended a Dell Latitude but it did also say they "support" newer Macs, so I'm thinking I should be fine.

I never brought a laptop to class. However, I had the pleasure of sitting by someone with a Mac in Harcourt's Crim, and the chat features and games distracted me as much as they distracted him.sealrsqr wrote:Anyone else planning on getting a Mac? I would recommend getting a Dell and using it for LRW, exams, and possibly building a small fort.

Absolutely no problems with Macs--we write our exams in Word, unlike other schools--and the computer guy knows Macs inside & out. I started out with a 4-year-old iBook, it died, was revived by said computer guy, and finally died for good. Now I have the lowest-end MacBook, and it is peachy.

you might consider the rules of where you will be taking the bar, assuming you want to hang on to this computer for three years. you don't want to not be able to take the bar exam on a computer because you got the wrong type. obvs these rules are subject to change..sealrsqr wrote:Sweet. How bad is it if I really don't feel like getting a new computer? Mind is about a year and a half old...

I can't imagine any circumstance where a computer that is a mere year and a half old will not suffice. Seriously? People just want to have an excuse to buy new things.

New website is up. At least now it is centered in the middle of my screen.

ooooh. definite improvement. not sure I'm a huge fan of the whole "pretend like we care what the public thinks about big questions of the day" thing, but... nice design, I think.

Question for everyone living in the Regents!
My roomie and I are getting a 16N two-bedroom corner room; one of the rooms is bigger, has a private bathroom, and has a lake view. The other one doesn't.
We are trying to figure out how to split the rent fairly. If anyone has lived in the same or similar apartment, I would really, really appreciate if you told me how you figured this out.
Thank you!

I know that two of my classmates solved the issue by switching rooms halfway through the year, during February.RussianGirl wrote:(also posted in a diff Chicago forum)

Currently, my room faces the other apartments and Washington Square (the neighborhood). A train rumbles in the distance. Meanwhile, my roommate's room faces the glorious lake.

Hi all --
I'm looking for a female roommate or roommates. I'm a 21-yr-old non-smoker, not a big partier, looking for someone to share a 2 bedroom at either Regents or Hyde Park tower. Message me if you're interested!

Regents is a huge rip-off. Avoid it, IMO.

Hey all--looking for a roommate. I found an awesome place in the South Loop (near the bus, red line, and LSD for driving) and I need a roommate. 26 yo female, nonsmoker, pets ok (I think!--the guy we'd be renting from owns the condo and is a friend of my best friend). Anyone interested? Or conversely anyone have a place in the city (no Hyde Park for me) that they want to share?
Message me if you do.

I'm interested. How is the rent, security of the building, etc?

I think I'm going to send in an appropriate facebook profile type pic. Definitely not as stiff as my passport photo, and without any solo cups/questionable behavior going on in the background.kangkangkang wrote:I just completed student profile form online and was wondering what kind of picture I should submit.
