Decision rendered is supposed to be acceptance or rejection. It never says the specific decision on there. You should get a call today, otherwise it will probably be a rejection in the mail. Decision pending means waitlist according to the other thread. Good luck.cfishy305 wrote:question... when your status checkers changed to decision rendered did anything else come up other than that? I'm asking because mine just changed and this is my top choice. I know some status checkers tell you right there if you got denied.

Oh crap, maybe my reading comprehension is failing me. Turtle posted about getting his/her hoodie after sending in his/her deposit, I misinterpreted it to mean that s/he got it as a result of submitting the deposit. Damn, sorry to raise false hopes. I guess this is where I start spending money on Penn.

Haha oh man. I felt really gypped for a second there. At least I got a free Class of 2012 t-shirt when I went to ASW.
I hear during orientation they have Penn Law clothing for sale that isn't available at other times, so you might want to wait until then if you're going to buy penn attire.

Anybody out there have any tips as to what the best way to approach a housing search would be? Thanks.

Re: Penn Class of 2012
There are some recommendations on the Penn Facebook page.
Prudential Fox & Roach is supposed to have a lot of listings. Their web site is http://www.prufoxroach.com.
I stopped at Locust Point last time I was in Philadelphia, and they have really nice apartments in walking distance of Penn. There is also a place called the Left Bank near the law school that looks nice. Don't know about prices there.
If you don't mind living a little farther away, Northern Liberties is a short subway ride from Penn and has more affordable rents than Center City. That's where I'm going to live.

Re: Penn Class of 2012
It looks like I am going to deposit at Penn! Looking forward to meeting you guys!
I'm going to be looking for a roommate in the Fitler Square area. Don't live in Left Bank - its near campus and all but its in a deadzone - not in Center City, not in West Philly. 10 minutes walk in any direction to find something to do.
Also, I am going to be in Philly all summer, so if anyone wants to meet up or needs someone to show them around I'm game for that.

I'm going to be in Philly for the summer as well. (Big plans to hang out on my parents' couch for 2 months and I am SO excited.) We should organize a TLS meet up at some point.riccardo426 wrote: Also, I am going to be in Philly all summer, so if anyone wants to meet up or needs someone to show them around I'm game for that.

Re: Penn Class of 2012
Is anyone looking for a roommate? I really want to find a two BR in the Fitler Square area, or at least somewhere in SW center city.
Why you should live with Riccardo426:
- He looks like a certain celebrity. You'll have hollywood in your home every day!
- He's from Philly. He'll show you all the cool spots when you arrive and give you Philly history lessons. You'll get to meet dozens of his awesome friends, all sporting ridiculous Philly accents. Watch your common facebook friends with him skyrocket past 100!
- He doesn't smoke. He cooks great Italian food. He's not allergic to your pets. What more could you ask?
- He uses TLS jargon IRL. Your forum experience will continue onwards!
- He never gets laid. Sleep in peace!
Send a PM if interested!

I'm looking for a roommate (and a place I might add). Not from Philly (I'm from California) and would appreciate ANY help.

Just mailed my letter of intent to enroll, so that makes me the newest member of this group I think.
Are there people that are thinking about living in West Philly, or are most of you thinking Center City?

Welcome! I personally am opting for Center City West. I think it is a good spot about halfway between University City, and everything on the other side of the river. Although you certainly can find a better bargain in University City, if cost is a big factor.mvhsbball22 wrote:Just mailed my letter of intent to enroll, so that makes me the newest member of this group I think.

I had been thinking of trying to save some money by living in University City, but Drexel's crime report scared me into thinking that I shouldn't - http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&ms ... =UTF8&z=15
I just found my roommate and I'm psyched. We're also looking in Center City, around Fitler Square.

I'm thinking of getting a one-bedroom just so my apartment can be a refuge from law school when I'm not studying. If anyone is familiar with the Philly housing market, how much more would a decent one-bedroom be than half of a two-bedroom in Center City or maybe Northern Liberties? Are there any other areas you'd recommend?

Northern Liberties is pretty far from campus. Maybe check out Fitler Square or Graduate Hospital.blueox wrote:I'm thinking of getting a one-bedroom just so my apartment can be a refuge from law school when I'm not studying. Re: Penn Class of 2012
I'm beginning my apartment search and wondered if it's better to look for apartments in June or wait until July for an August 1 lease.
If the apartment's on the market in June, are landlords willing to allow for an August move in date or do you have to grab it a month early and pay for the month you're not there?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to figure out whether to book a ticket in mid June or mid July. I'm excited about moving to Philly but this long-distance apartment search is a bit daunting!

I would recommend going in June. It's less than 2 months from your move-in date, so they should know what's available. You shouldn't have to pay for July rent.noquieromas wrote:I'm beginning my apartment search and wondered if it's better to look for apartments in June or wait until July for an August 1 lease.

Re: Penn Class of 2012
I am talking more about craigslist apartments, not the high-rises and swanky buildings that the Penn materials refer us to (no offense to those who are going that route -- I just can't afford places like that). I'd imagine in the larger buildings they will know what's available and be able to show apartments that are coming due in August, but I'm looking at smaller apartment buildings and row houses -- the type of apartments you find on craigslist.
Here in Chicago, for example, if you went to a landlord in June off a craigslist posting and wanted the lease to start in August, they'd laugh and reject your application in favor of a person who wants a July 1 move in date. I wouldn't think people are posting apartments for August on craigslist in June, but maybe things are different in areas near Penn due to the number of students.
Anyone who lives in Philly or is a Penn student have any concrete info?
Thanks.

Hi everybody! Long time lurker, first time poster. I found a great service called philly apartment co (phillyapartmentco.com), which is totally free. You are matched up with a broker who gives you listings based on your needs. After living in nyc for many years, I was shocked at the value in philly and the fact that there were brokers who were not asking for any money (let alone 15% of the yearly rent). One caveat about the site is it is mostly highrises....

Re: Penn Class of 2012
Does anyone know if most people from the law school live in Center City or University City? I know for the business school most of the grad students live in Center City but I figured since many of the law students will be right out of college (re: poorer) they will want to live in cheaper environs. Is that true?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
