Why so sad, girl in blue?
There's no required software. We're just discussing what software people are using to take notes. (there's also no software needed for exams, as I understand it)

I assume this is what you meant, but you do need Word for exams, just no special programs.

Thanks! For some reason I thought there was special software!
Just thought I'd add some color to the posts

OneNote also makes organizing notes by subject and date a hell of a lot easier. I'm gonna miss it when my macbook comes.
Did some searching, and it looks like there are a few mac-friendly programs that try to do the job:

I've tried most of these and here is my take:
Notebook mode in Word- probably the best bet, but is lacking some crucial features.
OmniOutliner- hated it.
CircusPonies notebook- 2nd best of the bunch, but didn't like that I had to use the mouse to do a lot of things instead of just a combination of enter/tab/etc. like word. They offer a free trial which I did but in the end I was unhappy with how it divided pages on the screen and when printing to PDF and that is important to me.
Evernote- good in theory but had way too many features for what I need it for.

45 heads counted on the first page here with the last update being in May.

I got an awesome desk from Staples for $150. They were actually selling it for more at the store, but it was cheaper online so they gave me the online price.

For furniture, I found Target isn't bad as far as quality/price on some office stuff. There's a Wal-Mart too. If you're ambitious, there's an IKEA at Potomac Mills which is only like an hour and a half drive. Might be worth it since as best I can tell, ya'll got a lot of free time between now and orientation, and I can't really think of another place that sells cheap bedroom furniture.

Question-my doc won't sign my health forms unless I get a physical. Didn't people say we can get them signed for free at UVA? If so... do we just need a copy of our immunization records for them?
Thanks!

you have to make an appointment with the health center for them to sign it.
before your appointment you need to bring your immunization records to the medical records office, or at least that's what i was told by the medical records office.

Can you also get your immunizations there? I won't have insurance until the 15th so I'm waiting until it kicks in to get the medical requirements done.

Renting furniture is the worst idea ever, you will end up paying like 10 times more for it. If you are on a tight budget just go to wal mart or target- they have really cheap stuff.

I just want to say thank goodness for this forum!!
I found out some bad news about my loans this afternoon, but would never have learned it if it wasn't for YCRevolution's post about his Discover loans which made me check my account on their website.
Hope everyone else's day is going better than my shitty day.

So the QuickPay page gives a due date of August 9, but my loans don't come until the 13th. Should I be worried at all? The 9th seems very early - at my undergraduate school tuition wasn't due until a couple weeks into the quarter.

OK, so as long as the loans are approved I should be good to go I guess.

I pretty much assume that when it comes to tuition, UVA will not let it slide by. They will make sure we know how to pay it! I wouldn't worry!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
