I've never heard of that. The only passes you can buy through the law school are Blue and D3, neither of which you are eligible for if you live in Ivy or on Arlington Blvd. I think Blue is pretty much the most basic pass, so if you can't buy that I'm not sure what else you'd be able to get, and even if you could what good it would do you.disco_barred wrote:lol guys we're chatty enough to expand this without resorting to spamming our own thread aren't we?
re: cars - my understanding is that arlington blvd / ivy gardens / othercloseplaces can still get permits to park on <s>campus</s> grounds, just not 'close' (wish i had more specifics).

Torts classes are up. All Mon-Thurs so none of you will have a class ending later than 11:20 on Fridays in the Fall.

wow, that is awesome! Although like some others, I do feel I need a class on Friday to get me up so that I don't waste a day.gladiator wrote:Torts classes are up. All Mon-Thurs so none of you will have a class ending later than 11:20 on Fridays in the Fall.

5 sections (maybe more depending on what Mahoney does) have Contracts on Friday and 6 sections (maybe more depending on what Low does) have CrimLaw on Fridays so I doubt many if any of you will have Fridays off.napolnic wrote:IIRC, there's still a chance we have a class a t 8:30 on Fridays.jdn012 wrote:wow, that is awesome! In what regards would it be advantageous to go with Anthem? I remember you (I think) saying before that the Aetna plan looks good if you have a spouse who'll be pregnant. Is that what you think the Aetna student plan's advantage is?CE2JD wrote:I would SERIOUSLY consider looking at Anthem insurance plans before purchasing the student health plan. There are advantages and disadvantages to both Anthem and the UVA Aetna UVA plan, but overall the Anthem plans are all much cheaper.geoffree wrote:That's news to me.disco_barred wrote: re: cars - my understanding is that arlington blvd / ivy gardens / othercloseplaces can still get permits to park on <s>campus</s> grounds, just not 'close' (wish i had more specifics).
In other news, Aetna has updated their UVA page, for those who are interested in the school provided health care. Details about their insurance package will be available in July.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Which only gets weirder when your high school had identical architecture to the law school building...thesealocust wrote:That's the truth. Maybe I'm just a freak, but my favorite college schedule I had classes from 8am - 12:30ish on average every day, some solid and some with breaks. Yeah 8am-12pm sucked, but I had huge chunks of free time, could go home at 12 instead of trying to take a break on campus or anything - it was awesome.Cavalier wrote:I don't mind Friday classes, I just like being done by noon or so.
So far the possible schedules we'll all have look fairly civilized... I can see why they'd give us a long but spread out day as 1Ls, the mid-day breather will certainly be nice even if I wouldn't have chosen it myself.
It also means most people will probably be in that one building basically all day... with our lockers... and a cafeteria... and parking spots are going to be hard to come by.
high school never ends!

Re: UVA Class of 2012
looks good to me. dumb questions, but these changes apply to everyone who's already signed up for loans right? and the interest rate would keep updating each year through ls?thesealocust wrote:Here's some good info on student loans:
From here (thanks, Congress!): --LinkRemoved--
That middle portion is pretty good looking. Capped at 15% and being forgiven in 25 years is somewhat comforting in case legal salaries and/or available jobs drop by 90% sometime in then ext 3 yearsOn July 1, the interest rates on subsidized federal student loans will decrease from 6 percent to 5.6 percent. This is the second of four annual cuts in this interest rate; it will continue to drop until it reaches 3.4 percent in 2011.
...
On July 1, a new Income-Based Repayment program will go into effect that caps borrowers’ monthly loan payments at just 15 percent of their discretionary income (15 percent of what a borrower earns above 150 percent of the poverty level for their family size). Any current or future borrower whose loan payment exceeds 15 percent of their discretionary income is eligible. After 25 years in the program, borrowers’ debts will be completely forgiven.
...
The program covers all federal loans – both Direct and Federal Family Education loans – made to students, including Stafford, Grad PLUS and federal consolidation loans, but not those made to parents (PLUS loans). Perkins loans are also eligible if a borrower consolidates them into a FFEL or Direct Loan.

Yea, do we get the 5.6 percent or are we stuck at 6 percent if we already signed up? How does this work?
