It's been a while so I'll post this again....

I'm a current 1L living in a 4 bed/4 bath apartment on Arlington Blvd. One of my roommates is moving out so we have an open space if any of you want to grab it. It's $565/month with utilities included (maybe slightly higher if they up the rates for next year). It's 3 1L guys, you'd be getting the 2nd floor B room in the floor plan on the site. It's right next to Barracks Shopping Center and a 5-7 minute walk to the law school.

--LinkRemoved--

PM me if you're interested and want the apartment #. There's no real deadline so you can wait til ASD if you wish but first come first serve.

Not 100% yet--hell, I'm not saying anything is 100% until I get the packet in the mail though (it may be just a dream :D)--but I will probably be at the ASW on March 27. May not get there in time for the Thursday events, but definitely for Friday.
Don't worry you are not the only one who had to wait for the acceptance letter in the mail to believe it.

Is anyone going to the events on Thursday and Friday? Or, are most of you just going to attend the events on Friday?

I think I'm going to try and make some of the Thursday events. I want to get in as much as possible while I'm there. My mom is coming with me (lame I know, but she's not going to anything but a tour and maybe the session for parents/spouses). I think I'm also going to try and go to Monticello on Saturday and maybe a vineyard if possible while I'm in the area.

Don't worry, my dad is tagging along, as well. We can be lame together. We're also doing Monticello on Saturday (might as well make it a mini vacation while you're there, right?).

Thought I'd procrastinate for a hot second and drop some truth bombs (well, opinion bombs):

1) I live in Arlington Townhomes and it's fine. The plus is I have a yard and it's the only thing in walking distance to the school that allows dogs. So, that's why I'm here. Negatives: One bathroom, which is more annoying than I thought. Frankly, if not for the dog, which I didn't have at the time so go figure, I'd pick Ivy over here. They're basically the same in terms of appliances and general drabness, but Ivy has double bathrooms. Big plus. Also, I imagine I'd be more in the loop at Ivy if I wanted to be (i.e. if you're straight out of undergrad, you probably want to live in Ivy if you're social.)

Caution about Woodlands, which I have friends at. It's kind of far, and if you think of yourself as a social being, that's a lot of drunk driving or $20 cab rides. That said, they're really nice places, they're just too far for me. (And even though they have pet stations in their quad-area, people still leave dog shit all over the place. Lazy bastards...)

2) People bring parents to ASD. No big deal. In some cases, they're helping pay for it so might as well. Caution them about asking questions though. It only makes you look weird, and people tend to remember that.

3) Enjoy the Feb Club blog, but a warning that February of 1L sucks. LRW brief due tomorrow (I'm sure you're schedule will be the same), Journal tryouts the weekend of 20th-23rd (Or 27th-2nd which coincides with the start of Spring Break) and suddenly February is the coldest month. That said, the parties you do get to make it out to are pretty fun. So, you got that going for you...

I've been following the Feb Club blog and thought the latest post is hilarious. I feel like an immature jerk for finding it funny, but still.
Rating: (Predicted) 2.75 The PILA Charity Date Auction combines nearly everything that makes us angry; paying for drinks during February, paying for sex, but not receiving any because it's "for charity", paying for other students to go on a summer soul journey courtesy of PILA where they work at the Puppy Defender's Office or some other ridiculous charity that takes money from people with real jobs and helps poor people get out of jail because the cop wasn't nice enough to them, and hearing people involved in PILA say anything.

It's like PILA has a committee whose job it is to come up with bad ideas because they consistently manage to do worse and worse. The last two years they subjected us to terrible law student karaoke and professors who think they are funny, now this year they hit us with this Date Auction crap. The entire premise of this auction is awful. First of all, Law students are both being auctioned and the one's purchasing people? Who wants to buy someone who sits in the library all day and then drinks all night. Everyone is either pale from lack of sunlight or yellow from liver poisoning. Also, Everyone already knows everyone else. If you see someone from the law school that you want to ask out then just do it. The only people that would legitimately purchase someone are the really creepy dudes that drool in class when a girl in the front row bends over to plug in her laptop. PILA is just acting as a middle man for people who are too afraid to talk to others in real life. How do they think these dates are going to go? PILA should provide some sort of escort to make sure their auctionees don't end up killed and dropped in a river.

Does a larger admissions packet with more information/instructions and a viewbook come later?
It's been two months for me, and the only letter I've received is the acceptance letter.
Same here.

Didn't get a chance to read the whole thread so I apologize if its already been discussed. I am planning on coming to the second ASW, flying into DC from California. I also want to check out GULC while i am at it. Need a travel buddy, anyone doing the same?

This $400 travel subsidy is pretty sweet, does everyone get it for just applying?

I'm pretty sure the travel subsidy is only for admitted students

1. Submit first Seat Deposit of $500 with "first deposit card" by April 30
2. Submit second Seat Deposit of $500 with "second deposit card" by June 15
3. Send final transcript with confirmation of degree directly to the law school (NOT to or through LSAC and the LSDAS) by August 1

Am I missing anything? Also, is this the address that we should have our transcript sent to:

University of Virginia School of Law
Office of Admissions
580 Massie Road
Charlottesville, VA 22903-1738
Yep, yep for the deposits and transcript. I sent in my deposit money (both) a couple of weeks ago. There was a slight delay cashing the checks because they were transitioning to a new system (they were nice and emailed me about it) but it's all taken care of now.

On the other hand, I just really messed up my UVA finaid app yesterday so I need to talk to them about that.
What are the first and second deposit cards?

They are PDF files you print out, sign, and include with your deposit check. Go to the AdmitWeb site, click on Financial aid, and there are links for both of them there.
I think I found them, thank you! :D
