Maybe I'm just cheap but I've never had a problem meeting expenses with loan money.

Has anyone made a living expenses spreadsheet or anything similar? I don't know how they are coming up with 15,000. I am living in one of the more expensive apartment complexes and I am still only getting around $12,000. Also, is their number supposed to be for 12 months or for 9, cause that might be my problem?

I think, in general, law schools' COL estimates are only based on nine months.

For UVA this year, COL outside of books, tuition, and fees was $15,700.

That's not just rent + utilities, it's also food, travel, clothing, and other expenses that come with being alive and going to school. Basically UVA thinks you should be able to survive w/ no other source of income on $15,700 and leaves it to you to budget (over, under, more here, more there).

Hmm, thanks. I was including pretty much everything except clothes which I'm hoping my Mom will nicely buy me if I need.

Sealocust, I thought someone else around here had that avatar, and I guess it wasn't you since you said it was new. I finally tried a Chipotle burrito and I wasn't THAT impressed.

You need to get babacoa or carnitas. Chicken is garbage, veggie is garbage, steak is ok.

I am working on a budget, I need to figure out how much I plan on spending at Chipotle a week. I should also probably plan on buying an entirely new wardrobe because all of my clothes will be too small after eating a 1000 calorie burrito every day.

I am all for hiking, winery, VA Beach and DC trips (I lived in DC/NOVA for the last 4 years)! I'm moving into Ivy at the end of July...and definitely want to make use of "freedom" while we still have it!

Also, I know this is a long way off...but if there are any skiers/snowboarders out there, I'll be making day trips to Wintergreen, which looks about 45 min away. It is fake skiing...but better than nothing!!

Glad to hear I'm not the only "old" person on here. I also graduated in '05. I'm hoping, however, that I'll just slip back into the studying thing. I feel like I've had enough time off from school that my brain is recovered and ready to focus again. I hope, anyway. Otherwise, this will be an expensive mistake.

I've only been out of undergrad for a year and I feel like it's been a lot longer. I'm planning on reading a little this summer (not law, just whatever) to try and get geared up for school. I have not done much reading or learning at all this year.

Ugh...could somebody just tell me what kind of laptop to buy? I'm trying to read reviews and make an informed decision, but when your only criteria are "not too heavy" and "full-size keyboard" you're left with a staggering, dare I say overwhelming?, number of options.

For the record, I currently have a Gateway, which I love, but it's over 4 years old. However, I've heard people complain about their Gateways breaking ridiculously quickly, so I'm a little hesitant to buy another one. Yeah, that should be on my list of criteria: unlikely to die in the middle of exams. That's really about it, though. I'm not a gamer, so all I need is to be able to get online, write a paper, and maybe play some music or a DVD. That's it.

Cool! I figure there won't be too much time anyway, at least the first year...but I have to get at least a few days in. I'm trying to hit 25 days this season...have to enjoy my fake retirement while I can!
