It's hard for me to recognize your comments without your helicopter, Rotor.

2 finals down, 3 to go!

Hehe...I think that's why I felt quasi-obliged to announce my change in tar. I'd had the helicopter up there since October.

How'd the two go? Good luck with the three remaining!

Anyone get that message about identities being stolen? Mine says that other people's were stolen and we'll let you know if yours was, but my friend who graduated two years ago says that her identity was stolen for sure.

I got the message and called the hotline they gave out. My identity was definitely stolen. Lovely. I called Equifax to place a fraud alert and have ordered a credit report...other than just checking my accounts every day, I think that's pretty much all you can do.

I thought it was past and current students (and parents if they were providing health insurance).

It is. The breach was through the University health services, so yeah, it only applies to those of us who went there for UG or are already in LS.

It's included in the fees. If you already have it and don't want to change (or pay for it twice) you need to fill out some paperwork.

Edit - I thought of another question.

Do we have to do another Master Promissory Note for the PLUS loans?
I think Fin Aid told me that there is a note that covers both Grad Plus and Stafford, but that I should make sure I sign the right one.

Yeah, they told me that. But then the MPN website says you can only do one at a time, but then you can do a combo for the entrance counseling. :?

Also, the lady I talked to seemed unhappy I put my dad's address as a permanent address (NY) and I am a CA resident. Why would it matter where my dad lives? I just put his addy so I don't miss any important mailings during the moving process. I would think the fact I currently get in-state tuition at a UC would be pretty indicative of my residency status...not to mention the fact I have lived here for 5 years and have a driver's license/car registered here/vote here. :?
Would you mind oposting the link to the MPN website? Thx! :)

Ha....just checked on tele bears to see if my waiver of non-resident tuition had been approved yet (it hadn't)...there was however a note that said I needed to fill out my MPN. Went to the website, filled it out and came back to TLS to find it the topic du jour in the Berkeley 2012 thread!

Something must be in the air.

For those of you who might be interested, the new LRAP program:

"The new program option will eliminate the $100,000 loan limit, providing coverage for any amount of law school student loan debt and extending coverage to some undergraduate loans. The new program will provide full coverage for those earning up to $65,000 per year and similar sliding scale benefits for those earning more up to a limit of $100,000 per year. Participation in the new program will be contingent upon enrollment in the Income Based Repayment (IBR) option created under the
College Cost Reduction and Access Act. This new program option will be available starting with the January 2010 LRAP eligibility period. Further program details will be forthcoming over the summer."

They have started updating Cal-Residency Status. I sent them an email and got this response :

Thank you for your email. Your residence classification has been
determined. You can check the status under the "Personal" tab of
BearFacts. Thank you.

I'll be there with bells on! Oh, yeah, can we bring our SO? I'll bring him! You ever get a reply to your RSVP e-mail?

Also - the Cal tars in this thread warms my heart. Keep em coming!! We have the most spirit of any Class of 2012 on TLS! :)
i never got a reply for my rsvp, but i'm sure it'll be fine to bring your SO. i think the purpose of this event is to keep us motivated to go to berkeley and not take other offers, so we have the power in this dynamic. i was thinking of wearing my Boalt Hall 2012 T-Shirt and a blazer. i agree that the Berkeley Law Class appears to be the most enthusiastic. Lifts me up as well. :D

Hah yeah sorry it's a confusing name. I went to UCLA undergrad, but I'm currently a 2L at Boalt. I'm about 1.5 finals from being a 3L. I miss LA!

+1!!! Where's the catch? This seems like a huuuge increase in aid (at least for us out of staters who have no hope of keeping our loans under $100,000). I'm assuming you have to stay in the program the full ten years now to get full repayment? That's kind of scary but worth it for the increase! I wonder if you have a choice between the old Boalt program and enrolling in the federal program?

(I should read the link, but I had to install something and it's still downloading!)

Okay, 0Ls....learn from my mistake. I only signed the promissory note and did entrance counselling for my GradPlus loans, not GradPlus and Direct subsidized and unsubsidized. If Amy hadn't posted about doing counselling for both, I would have been none the wiser. I had to sit through a second counselling / quiz session this morning. Fun times!!!

Hmm... am I being really stupid? Where are you guys doing all this financial aid counseling, etc.? Is it because I confirmed enrollment less than ten days ago? I hope so, because I haven't done anything about Grad Plus or anything :(

No, you're not being stupid. It's a difficult process to navigate. Here's the link, posted from the FinAid website:

"A separate master promissory note must be completed for the Grad PLUS at http://dlenote.ed.gov. Terms and conditions of the Grad "PLUS" loan will be explained in the MPN."

Once you sign the promissory note in that link, you have to do the entrance counselling at another website.

Here's the link for loan info from Berkeley's website:

http://www.law.berkeley.edu/193.htm

Hope this helps!!
