Has anyone else in VA gotten anything? I haven't checked the mail yet today.

I really hope that letter gets to Boston before I hop on a plane to Virginia. I don't think I can spend three whole days at UVA knowing that a letter is waiting for me back home.

From last years class it seems that if your numbers floated around median you should get about 30K total.

however, due to their increase in applications, I have been told by one of the adcomms that last year's scholly amounts may not be predictive for this year.

The person on LSN says they are in VA but maybe they are at UVA and that is why it was so fast? I doubt I'm getting anything so I'm in no hurry to check the mail.

If we don't get anything, will we still get our financial aid info now? Or does that come later?

At March 13 ASD, they said to expect financial aid packages to be rolling out after 4/1... but I'm not sure if they'll be sending out notifications for those who DON'T receive any scholarship.

the ones after 4/1 are the loan packages right? I thought the scholarship money was coming out now, but the entire financial aid package would be coming out on 4/1.

wait a minute, so if you do not get anything in the mail this week, you did not obtain any merit aid from UVA and should wait till after april 1 for the loan packages? Or does everyone get a letter letting them know of merit aid status, whetehr they got some or didnt?

Also when is the start day for teh fall semester? Is it september 1 or in august?

Ugh, I'm right on the borderline...last year I might have gotten something, but this year...probably not. The money's the reason why I haven't officially joined the UVA Class of 2012 thread yet, but I really want to go to UVA! I've been following the scholarship info, and my home address is in VA, so I should find out in the next couple of days. Good luck to everyone with the scholarships this week, I hope that all the (probably true) rumors about UVA being stingy this year are all false.

1st year classes begin Wednesday, August 19

This is merit aid only, right? I'm hoping to get at least one need-based grant.

Might be wrong but I think your award from UVa is merit + need based grants as one figure. The rest is covered by your own contribution or loans.

I got the letter today - this is for merit based aid only... need-based aid comes out in April... unsurprisingly, as an ED splitter, I got no merit aid...

Are you 100% sure about that? I got my scholarship notification today via email and, in the informal email, it was called "scholarship," but I assumed this encompassed all "free money." Are you sure there is still need-based "free money" to be had? I'm especailly curious because I just finished concocting a request for more money based on a better offer from a similar school. That offer, however, was a combination of merit and need-based aid.

UVA e-mailed you your scholarship offer? Hmmmm... maybe they'll send mine in the next few hours before I take off to CVille.

Looking again at the letter, it seems that most likely this will be the only scholarship that you will get...

I am in VA and nothing in my mail today either.

Family Housing (Copeley and UV Gardents) seem to be very reasonable at 855$/mo 2br, furnished and ALL amenities/utilities included. (705 for 1 br i think). The only downside (for me) is that there are no pets allowed. C'mon, not even cats?
They even go so far in the rules to ask residents not to touch or play with any animals that may be in the surrounding area for fear that they will be encouraged to make frequent visits. Does it really matter THAT much? Yeah, it's technically on campus, but it's less than a stone's throw away from off-campus houses that have pets.

My wife and I live in UG, and the rent is 670/month 1 bedroom, everything included. It's a mile cheaper than anything else in C'ville if you are married or have a child. Yeah, the pet thing sucks though. We've wanted a pet for a while now.
